Van Buren County Courthouse (Arkansas)
The Van Buren County Courthouse is located at the corner of Griggs and Main Streets in downtown Clinton, Arkansas, the county seat of Van Buren County. It is a two-story masonry structure, built primarily out of local stone. Its main facade is five bays wide, each flanked by broad sections that project a small amount. The main entrance is in the center bay, with a concrete surround of pilasters and a tall corniced entablature. It was built in 1934 with funding support from the federal Works Progress Administration, and was the county's third courthouse to be located in Clinton. Clinton, Arkansas
Clinton is the county seat of Van Buren County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,602 at the 2010 census, making it the most populous city in the county (reclaiming the distinction from the resort community of Fairfield Bay). The city was named for DeWitt Clinton, the New York governor who built the Erie Canal; he had also been a U.S. Senator from New York. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which is land and (1.64%) is water. The City of Clinton is situated on the shore of the Archey Fork, a tributary of the Upper Little Red River which flows into Greers Ferry Lake. This body of water is known for its rich and diverse fish habitat and recreational uses. WPA Rustic architecture is an architectural style from the era of the U.S. New Deal Works Project Administration. The WPA provided funding for architects to create a variety of buildings, including amphitheaters and lodges. WPA architecture is akin to National Park Service rustic architecture. WPA Rustic, as opposed to National Park Service Rustic as utilized in most national parks, involves more demarcation between the building and the landscape.
