Maringouin is a town in Iberville Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,098 at the 2010 census, down from 1,262 at the 2000 census. At the 2020 population estimates program, its population was 966. It is part of the Baton Rouge metropolitan statistical area. Etymology The name, which is Cajun French in origin and means "mosquito", is pronounced ''mah-ring-gwin''. Geography Maringouin is located in northern Iberville Parish at (30.490911, -91.519023). Its northern border is the Pointe Coupee Parish line, and its eastern border is Bayou Grosse Tete. Louisiana Highway 77 passes through the center of the town, leading north to Livonia and southeast along Bayou Grosse Tete to Rosedale. Louisiana Highway 76 leads south from Maringouin along Bayou Maringuoin to Interstate 10 at Ramah. The Greek Revival was an architectural movement which began in the middle of the 18th century but which particularly flourished in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, predominantly in northern Europe and the United States and Canada, but also in Greece itself following independence in 1832. It revived many aspects of the forms and styles of ancient Greek architecture, in particular the Greek temple, with varying degrees of thoroughness and consistency.
