Valur (women's Football)
The Valur women's football team, commonly known as Valur, is the women's association football, women's football department of the Valur (club), Valur multi-sport club. It is based in Reykjavík, Iceland, and currently plays in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna (football), Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top-tier women's football league in Iceland. The team plays it home games at Hlíðarendi (stadium), Hlíðarendi located in Reykjavík. The team's colors are red and white. Valur has won the Icelandic championship 11 times and the Icelandic Women's Cup 13 times. Recent history In 2017, the team hired Pétur Pétursson as head coach. In September 2019, Valur won the national championship for the eleventh time in its history, and first time since 2010. Hlíðarendi (stadium)
Hlíðarendi () is a multi-purpose stadium in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is the home-court of Valur's football, basketball and handball teams. The football stadium holds 2,465 people, including 1,201 in seats. The indoor court holds 1,300 people in seats. The stadium broke ground in 2004 and the indoor stadium was formerly opened on 7 September 2007 while the outdoor football stadium was formerly opened on 25 May 2008. It bore the name of Vodafone from 2007 until 2015. Sandra Sigurðardóttir
Sandra Sigurðardóttir (born 2 October 1986) is an Icelandic football goalkeeper who plays for Valur of the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild. Sandra has played for Iceland's national team and was a squad member at the 2009 and 2013 editions of the UEFA Women's Championship. Club career In 2011 Sandra signed for Swedish Damallsvenskan team Jitex BK. A contract dispute followed and Sandra quickly left, but she was not allowed to play for Stjarnan again until FIFA ruled in her favour. In 2016, Sandra signed for Valur. In June 2017, she became the Úrvalsdeild kvenna all-time leader in matches played, after breaking Sigurlín Jónsdóttir's 18-year-old record of 233 matches. Þórdís Hrönn Sigfúsdóttir (born 19 November 1993, sometimes anglicised as Thórdís Hrönn Sigfúsdóttir) is an Icelandic footballer who plays for Valur. She has made two appearances for the Iceland women's national football team. Club career From 2009 to 2013, Þórdís Hrönn played for Icelandic Úrvalsdeild kvenna club Breiðablik. Anna Rakel Pétursdóttir (born 24 August 1998) is an Icelandic footballer who plays as a defender for Valur and the Iceland national team. She had previously played for Linköpings FC and the Icelandic club Þór/KA. Elín Metta Jensen (born 1 March 1995) is an Icelandic former footballer. She played her entire career as a striker for Valur. Elín was a part of Iceland's national team from 2012 to 2022 and represented her country at the 2013 and 2017 editions of the UEFA Women's Championship. Club career Elín has played for Valur since 2010. She made her Úrvalsdeild debut aged 15 in July 2010, scoring the fifth goal in Valur's 7–2 win over Haukar. In 2012, she scored 18 goals in 18 games to win the league's Golden Boot. Elín was voted Úrvalsdeild player of the year for the season of 2019, scoring 16 goals and providing 10 assists, a season that saw Valur win the title. Elísa Viðarsdóttir
Elísa Viðarsdóttir (born 26 May 1991) is an Icelandic footballer who plays as a defender in the Úrvalsdeild for Valur and the Iceland women's national football team. She is the younger sister of Margrét Lára Viðarsdóttir, Iceland's record goalscorer. Like Margrét Lára, she began her career with Úrvalsdeild club ÍBV. Club career She has played for ÍBV since 2007 with her first league match coming in 2008.
