Valley (Liverpool Ward)
Valley ward was an electoral division of Liverpool City Council between 1980 and 2004. It and was centred on the Netherley district of Liverpool. Background The ward was first formed in 1980 and was dissolved in 2004. A report of the Local Government Boundary Commission for England published in November 1978 set out proposals for changes to the wards of Liverpool City Council, maintaining the number of councillors at 99 representing 33 wards. Liverpool
Liverpool is a city and metropolitan borough in Merseyside, England. Liverpool City Council is the governing body for the city of Liverpool in Merseyside, England. It consists of 90 councillors, three for each of the city's 30 wards. Belle Vale is a district of south-east Liverpool, Merseyside, England and a Liverpool City Council Ward that covers both Belle Vale and Netherley. Description The Belle Vale area shares borders with Huyton, Netherley, Gateacre and Childwall. The main road in Belle Vale is Childwall Valley Road ( B5178) running from Childwall through to Netherley. North Liverpool Extension Line
The North Liverpool Extension Line was a railway line in Liverpool, England in operation between 1879 and 1972. It was at one stage intended to become the eastern section of the Merseyrail Outer Loop, an orbital line circling the city. History The line was built by the Cheshire Lines Committee, branching from the Committee's Liverpool to Manchester line at Hunts Cross in the south of the city, running north skirting the eastern edge of Liverpool, finally arriving at the Walton Triangle junction. One line continued north to Aintree, another curved west through the Rice Lane to Kirkdale tunnel which brought the line facing south, towards Liverpool Docks. The line ran alongside the already existing LYR line before terminating at Huskisson railway station, just after Sandhills railway station. Belle Vale (Liverpool Ward)
Belle Vale is an electoral division of Liverpool City Council in the Garston and Halewood Parliamentary constituency. Background The ward was formed in 2004 and the boundaries were altered in 2023. From 2023 the ward is represented by two councillors. 2004 boundaries A review by the Boundary Committee for England recommended that the council was formed of a reduced number of 90 members elected from 30 wards. The Belle Vale was created from the former Netherley and Valley wards. The ward boundaries followed the city boundary and the North Liverpool Extension Line. Liverpool Town Council Elections
Liverpool Town Council existed from 1835 to 1880. Liverpool Town Council was established by the Municipal Corporations Act 1835, replacing the Liverpool Common Council which was first established under the Charter of John, King of England, King John in 1207. Records for the Common Council go back to 1550. In 1835, Sixteen wards were established, each of which elected three councillors for a three-year term. One-third of the councillors were elected each year in a three-year cycle. The councillors were elected by male ratepayers (not all adults). The franchise was extended throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. In addition there were 16 Alderman, aldermen who were elected by the council and had the same voting rights as the elected councillors.
