Valla, New South Wales
Valla is a suburb in the Nambucca Valley, on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia. The name was chosen to match that of the British residence of nineteenth century diplomat Andrew Buchanan. History ''Deep Creek'' Post Office opened on 16 November 1905, was renamed ''Valla'' in 1906 and closed in 1942. Surfing Valla Beach has a range of surf spots. South Beach is usually an easy wave but with swell can get fun for experienced surfers. North Valla is a wave for the more experienced surfers. It is known for its long right over rocks and further down the beach has a fast A-frame good for all surfers in average swells. Demographics The population of Valla is predominantly Australian-born (80.8%) and English-speaking (90.1%). Oxley is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. History Oxley was created in 1920, with the introduction of proportional representation, replacing Gloucester and Raleigh, and elected three members. It was named after John Oxley. In 1927 it was divided into the single-member electorates of Oxley, Gloucester and Raleigh. In 1988 it was abolished and replaced by Port Macquarie. It was recreated in 1991. Oxley is one of three original (post 1927 redistribution) electorates to have never been held by the Labor Party, the other districts being Tamworth and Upper Hunter. The National Party has held the seat since its current incarnation was created in 1991. Nambucca Heads is a town on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia in the Nambucca Valley. It is located on a ridge, north of the estuary of the Nambucca River near the Pacific Highway. Its 2021 population was 6,675 (6,327 in 2016 census, 6,137 in 2011 census), including 5,226 (78.3%) Australian-born persons and 672 indigenous persons. The place name is derived from an Gumbaynggirr word Ngambagabaga. Clement Hodgkinson asked two Ngamba men what the name of the area was they responded to Nyambagabaga as the spot they were standing was a bend in the river where a Ngamba giant was speared in the leg in the Dreaming. Coffs Harbour, New South Wales
Coffs Harbour is a city on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia, north of Sydney, and south of Brisbane. It is one of the largest urban centres on the North Coast, with a population of 78,759 as per 2021 census. The Gumbaynggirr are the original people of the Coffs Harbour region. Coffs Harbour's economy was once based on timber and agriculture. Over recent decades, tourism has become an increasingly important industry for the city. The shire services an area of and is located adjacent to the Pacific Highway and the North Coast railway line. Sir Andrew Buchanan, 1st Baronet, GCB, PC, DL (7 May 1807 – 12 November 1882) was a Scottish diplomat. Family Buchanan was the only son of James Buchanan of Blairvadach, Ardinconnal, Dumbartonshire, and Janet, the eldest daughter of James Sinclair, 12th Earl of Caithness. He married first on 4 April 1839 Frances Katharine, the daughter of the Very Rev Edward Mellish, dean of Hereford (she died 4 December 1854). North Coast Railway Line, New South Wales
The North Coast Line is the primary rail route in the Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers regions of New South Wales, Australia, and forms a major part of the Sydney–Brisbane rail corridor. The line begins at Maitland and ends at Roma Street railway station in Brisbane, although freight services terminate at the yard at Acacia Ridge on the outskirts of Brisbane. Along the way, the railway passes through the towns of Dungog, Gloucester, Wingham, Taree, Kendall, Wauchope, Kempsey, Macksville, Nambucca Heads, Urunga, Sawtell, Coffs Harbour, Grafton, Casino and Kyogle.
