Valestrandfossen or ValestrandsfossenAccording to Statens kartverkSK Website/ref> is a village in the municipality of Osterøy, adjacent to Norway's second-largest city and municipality Bergen, Vestland county. It lies at Sørfjorden to the west and south of the municipal centre of Lonevåg. Sites worth mentioning include Hamre and Hamre Church. Valestrandfossen has shops, a gas station, primary school, hairdressers, pubs, and Lerøy Fossen AS, the world's largest trout smokehouse. Valestrandfossen is the largest settlement on the whole island of Osterøy. The village has a population (2019) of 1,303 and a population density of . Osterøy
Osterøy is an island municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Nordhordland. The municipality encompasses most of the island of Osterøy. The administrative centre of Osterøy is the village of Lonevåg in the central part of the island. The largest settlement is the village of Valestrandfossen with 1,219 inhabitants as of 1 January 2016. Osterøy municipality and Vaksdal Municipality are both located on the island of Osterøy. Osterøy municipality covers most of the island with the mostly uninhabited northeastern part of the island belonging to Vaksdal municipality. Sørfjorden is a long fjord in Vestland county, Norway. The fjord flows around the west and south sides of the island of Osterøy, going through the municipalities of Osterøy, Bergen, and Vaksdal. The fjord begins at the village of Vaksdal where the Veafjorden flows into the Sørfjorden, it then heads west and then north before emptying into the Osterfjorden. Hamre is a village in the municipality of Osterøy in Vestland county, Norway. The village of Hamre is located near the extreme western point on the island of Osterøy, across the Osterfjorden from the village of Knarvik. Hamre village was the administrative centre of the former municipality of Hamre, which existed from 1838 until 1964. Georg Andreas Bull
Georg Andreas Bull (26 March 1829 – 1 February 1917) was a Norwegian architect and chief building inspector in Christiania (now Oslo) for forty years. He was among the major architects in the country, and performed surveying studies and archeological research. Background Bull was born in Bergen, Norway as the youngest of 10 siblings. He was a son of pharmacist Johan Storm Bull (1787–1838) and his wife Anna Dorothea Borse Geelmuyden (1789–1875). He was a brother of violinist Ole Bull and painter Knud Bull, an uncle of Edvard Hagerup Bull and Schak Bull, a granduncle of Sverre Hagerup Bull and a second cousin of Johan Randulf Bull and Anders Sandøe Ørsted Bull. Bull received drawing lessons in Bergen by the German born architect and painter Franz Wilhelm Schiertz (1813–1887) from 1843 to 1845. Hamre Church
Hamre Church ( no, Hamre kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Osterøy Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Hamre. It is the church for the Hamre parish which is part of the Åsane prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The wooden church was built in a long church design in the late 1500s (possibly in 1585) using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 350 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1329, but the church was not built that year. The first church in Hamre was a wooden stave church that is thought to have been built in 1023 or 1024. There isn't much known about this church, but it was the main church for all of Nordhordland, and therefore it was much more important than the typical parish church. Bjørnafjorden Municipality
Bjørnafjorden is a fjord in Vestland county, Norway. It runs through the municipalities of Austevoll, Bjørnafjorden, and Tysnes. The large island of Tysnesøya (and many small, surrounding islands such as Reksteren) lie along the south side of the Bjørnafjorden and the Bergen Peninsula and the mainland lie along the north and east sides of the fjord. The Fusafjorden (and the Samnangerfjorden which branches off it) split off from the main fjord on the north side by the village of Osøyro. The fjord is about wide and its maximum depth is below sea level. The municipality of Bjørnafjorden, which was established on 1 January 2020 as a merger between the old municipalities of Os and Fusa, is named after the fjord. Lysøen
Lysøen is an island in Bjørnafjorden in Vestland county, Norway. Lysøen is also the site of Villa Lysøen (''Ole Bulls villa på Lysøen''), the home of Norwegian violin-virtuoso and composer Ole Bull until his death in 1880. Villa Lysøen The island was originally the site of a farm established around 1670. The island was bought by Ole Bull in 1872 who constructed the villa. Ole Bull drew the plans for the villa himself, under the supervision of renowned Norwegian architect Conrad Fredrik von der Lippe (1833–1901). Ole Bull had a large villa built on the island, inspired by numerous architectural styles, including the Swiss chalet style and Moorish architecture. Ole Bull
Ole Bornemann Bull (; 5 February 181017 August 1880) was a Norwegian virtuoso violinist and composer. According to Robert Schumann, he was on a level with Niccolò Paganini for the speed and clarity of his playing. Biography Background Bull was born in Bergen, Norway. He was the eldest of ten children of Johan Storm Bull (1787–1838) and Anna Dorothea Borse Geelmuyden (1789–1875). His brother, Georg Andreas Bull became a noted Norwegian architect. He was also the uncle of Edvard Hagerup Bull, Norwegian judge and politician. His father wished for him to become a minister, but he desired a musical career. At the age of four or five, he could play all of the songs he had heard his mother play on the violin. At age nine, he played first violin in the orchestra of Bergen's theatre and was a soloist with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. Åsane is a borough of the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The borough makes up the northern part of the city, north of the city centre. Åsane is connected to downtown Bergen by the E16/ E39 highway. The E16 highway continues on through Åsane to the southeast to the neighboring borough of Arna. The E39 highway continues north through Åsane to the Nordhordland Bridge and then on to the northern municipalities in Vestland county. There are plans to shorten the E39 highway through Åsane, including the construction of two tunnels: Eikås Tunnel (start of construction 2010) and the Nyborg Tunnel (still in the planning stages).
