Valery Kulikov
Valery Vladimirovich Kulikov (russian: Валерий Владимирович Куликов; born 1 September 1956) is a Ukrainian-born Russian politician, and former military commander. He served as the member of the Federation Council of from the executive branch of Sevastopol from 19 September 2017 to September 2020. Kulikov has the rank of vice admiral, and was a deputy commander of the Black Sea Fleet. Biography Valery Kulikov was born on 1 September 1956 in Zaporizhzhia, then in the Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union. In 1974, he began active military service in the border troops. In 1980 he graduated from the Black Sea Higher Naval School named after P.S. Nakhimov and received a referral to the Black Sea Fleet. In 1994, he graduated from the Kuznetsov Naval Academy. Dmitry Vladimirovich Ovsiannikov (Russian: Дмитрий Владимирович Овсянников; born on 21 February 1977) is a Russian politician who served as Governor of Sevastopol from 18 September 2017 to 11 July 2019. He is considered a protege of Sergey Chemezov. Biography Dmitry Ovsiannikov was born in Omsk, Omsk Oblast, in Siberia on 21 February 1977. In August 2001, at the age of 24, he entered the Russian State staff reserve and was appointed Federal Inspector in Kirov Oblast. He served as Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce of the Russian Government between 23 December 2015 and 28 July 2016, when he was made the so-called Governor of Sevastopol following the resignation of Sergey Menyaylo. Pavel Stepanovich Nakhimov (russian: Павел Степанович Нахимов, ; – ) was a Russian Admiral in the Imperial Russian Navy known for his victory in the Battle of Sinop and his leadership in the Siege of Sevastopol (1854–1855) during the Crimean War. He joined the imperial Russian Navy and moved up the ranks serving in the Greek War of Independence and the Russo-Turkish War (1828–29). At the beginning of the Crimean War, he delivered a significant victory at the Battle of Sinop against the Ottoman Empire. Afterward, he was a leader in the defense of Sevastopol against British, French, and Ottoman forces, during which a sniper wounded him, and he died a few days later. After his death, he became a hero in Russia, with medals and ships named after him, especially during Soviet times, starting with Stalin.
