Valentia Young Islanders GAA
Valentia Young Islanders are a Gaelic Athletic Association club from Valentia Island, South County Kerry, Ireland. They play in Division 4 of the county league and in the Kerry Novice Football Championship. The club's most recent success has been winning the Munster Junior football championship final after beating Kildimo-Pallaskenry 12 points to 1-8 on 25 January 2015. The Young Islanders is one of the many clubs affected by mass emigration, losing numerous players in this manner. In recent years the club has struggled to field a sufficient number of players and has at times explored the option of merging with other local clubs. The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Valentia Island
Valentia Island () is one of Ireland's most westerly points. It lies off the Iveragh Peninsula in the southwest of County Kerry. It is linked to the mainland by the Maurice O'Neill Memorial Bridge at Portmagee. A car ferry also departs from Reenard Point to Knightstown, the island's main settlement, from April to October. Another, smaller village named Chapeltown sits at roughly the midpoint of the island, from the bridge. Valentia Island's permanent population is 665 (). The Kerry Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Kerry GAA clubs. Rathmore are the title holders (2022).. Teams 2022 Teams Honours The winners can be promoted to play in the Kerry Senior Football Championship in the year after they win this competition. The winners of the Kerry Intermediate Football Championship progress to the Munster Intermediate Club Football Championship, representing Kerry, later that year, or, as was the case in 2021, the following year. Kerry Club Football Championship
The Kerry Club Football Championship is a Gaelic football championship played between senior clubs in Kerry, south-west Ireland. In the event of the Kerry Senior Football Championship being won by a divisional team, the winner of this competition represents Kerry in the Munster Senior Club Football Championship (as divisional teams cannot play in the provincial competition). The competition was not played in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Format Group stage The 8 clubs are divided into two groups of four. Over the course of the group stage, each team plays once against the others in the group, resulting in each team being guaranteed three group games. Ger Lynch
Ger Lynch (born 10 December 1958) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played as a wing back at senior level for the Kerry county team. Lynch made his first appearance for the team during the 1982 championship and became a regular player over subsequent seasons until his retirement in 1989. During that time he won three All-Ireland winners' medals, three Munster winners' medals, one National Football League winners' medal and one All-Star award.
