The 1941–42 La Liga was the 11th season of Spanish football league. Valencia won the first top-flight title in club history. Team locations Real Sociedad returned to the first division after a three-season absence. Granada, Deportivo La Coruña and Castellón made their debut in La Liga. For this season, Hércules played with the denomination of ''Alicante CF''. The namesake club acted as its reserve team with the name of ''Lucentum CF''. 1940–41 La Liga
The 1940–41 La Liga was the tenth season since its establishment. Atlético Aviación retained the title. Format changes Due to the expansion of the league to 14 teams for the next season, the two last qualified teams, instead of being directly relegated to Segunda División, faced the third and fourth qualified teams in a single-game play-off match. Team locations After an absence of one season due to the damages in their stadium, Oviedo came back to La Liga. Murcia made its debut this season. With the arrival of the Francoism, in 1941 a law that forbid the use of foreign names like ''Athletic'', ''Sporting'' or ''Racing'' was approved. Edmundo Suárez
Edmundo Suárez Trabanco (22 January 1916 – 14 December 1978) was a Spanish football player and coach – better known as Mundo. He was born in Barakaldo. He played as a centre-forward for Spanish club Valencia CF for most of his career, except for his last season, where he played for CD Alcoyano. Club career ''Mundo'' initially played football with various amateur teams in his native Basque Country, but the Spanish Civil War changed his career completely. He had a contract with Athletic Bilbao but this acquisition was made in republican territory, therefore it was not considered valid by the pro-Franco state which remained in power after the War. In 1939, the pro-Franco army created a team, named "Recovery of Levante" formed diverse players who had fought in the military region of Levante. 1939–40 La Liga
The 1939–40 La Liga was the ninth season since its establishment and the first one after the Spanish Civil War, that forced to suspend the competition during three years. The season started on December 3, 1939, and finished on April 28, 1940. Despite being relegated in the previous season, Atlético Aviación won its first title ever. Format changes For this season, the team qualified in the 10th position would face the second qualified team from Segunda División in a single-game play-off at a neutral venue.
