Vale Of Clara
Vale of Clara () is a national nature reserve of approximately located in County Wicklow, Ireland. It is managed by the Irish National Parks & Wildlife Service, part of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. Features The Vale of Clara was legally protected as a national nature reserve by the Irish government in 1983. The Special Area of Conservation, Ballygannon Wood, is contained within the Vale of Clara nature reserve. The Vale of Clara, sometimes known as Clara Vale Forest, is a fragmented oak woodland set over a large area, with the largest semi-natural woods in County Wicklow. It is possibly the largest native hardwood wood in Ireland. This area has been partially covered in trees since the Ice Age. There is also a variety of hazel, willow, holly, and birch trees as well as bluebells, bilberry, honeysuckle, and wood sorrel. Special Area Of Conservation
A Special Area of Conservation (SAC) is defined in the European Union's Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC), also known as the ''Directive on the Conservation of Natural Habitats and of Wild Fauna and Flora''. They are to protect the 220 habitats and approximately 1,000 species listed in annex I and II of the directive which are considered to be of European interest following criteria given in the directive. They must be chosen from the Sites of Community Importance by the member states and designated SAC by an act assuring the conservation measures of the natural habitat. SACs complement Special Protection Areas and together form a network of protected sites across the European Union called Natura 2000. Clara Lara FunPark
Clara Lara FunPark is an outdoor adventure and water park in County Wicklow, Ireland. History The park was opened by Peter Morphew in 1983, under the name "Clara-Lara Trout Farm and Funpark". It is located in the Vale of Clara; it takes its name from that and from the nearby village of Laragh. It only covered at that time. The founder said that he wanted "it to be as far removed from Disneyland as possible absolutely rural and as rustic, without any concrete at all." In 1995, a 14-year-old girl received a facial scar in an accident at Clara Lara; she was awarded IR£10,000 but never received it because the park had no insurance at the time. In 2003, the founder, Peter Morphew, was convicted of possession of child pornography as a result of the Operation Amethyst investigation, and received a six-month sentence.
