Valdon Dowiyogo
Valdon Kape Dowiyogo (31 August 1968 – 8 December 2016) was a political figure and cabinet minister from the Pacific nation of the Republic of Nauru. Family and political background His father, Bernard Dowiyogo, served as President of Nauru on seven occasions between 1976 and 2003. His brother, Jesaulenko Dowiyogo, is also pursuing a political career. Valdon Dowiyogo stood for the Parliament of Nauru for the constituency of Ubenide and was duly elected. Speaker of the Parliament of Nauru On 27 December 2004 he was elected Speaker of the Parliament of Nauru. The occasion of his appointment was the death in office of the previous Speaker, Vassal Gadoengin. He served until December 2007. Member of the Cabinet In 2013 Dowiyogo was appointed by President Baron Waqa to be a member of his Cabinet. Dowiyogo held the portfolios of Health, Transport, Sports, and Fisheries. The Cabinet of Nauru is the executive branch of the government of the Republic of Nauru, a small island nation in the Pacific Ocean. Article 17 (1.) of the Constitution of Nauru provides for the "executive authority of Nauru" to be vested in "a Cabinet constituted as provided by this Part" with the "general direction and control of the government of Nauru", specified in Article 17 (2.) as being "collectively responsible" to the Parliament of Nauru. The Cabinet is directly appointed by the President of Nauru, and comprises the president, who presides over meetings over the Cabinet, and either four or five members of the parliament. The president is also responsible for assigning Members of the Cabinet, including himself, "responsibility for any business of the government of Nauru", as ministers. Christine Dowiyogo
Christina Eidienda Dowiyogo (14 January 1948 – 19 March 2008) was the wife of the former President of Nauru Bernard Dowiyogo and the longest-serving First Lady of Nauru in the country's history. She married Bernard Dowiyogo in 1968 and served as her country's First Lady for seven different terms between 1976 and 2003. President Dowiyogo died in office in 2003, leaving Dowiyogo a widow.
