Valdis Mintals (born 11 December 1979 in Tallinn) is an Estonian pair skater. With partner Ekaterina Nekrassova, he is a multiple Estonian national champion. They competed at the World, European, and World Junior Championships before ending their partnership in 1998. From 1998 through 2002, Mintals competed with Viktoria Shklover. They were the 1998–2002 Estonian national champions. They competed twice at the World Junior Championships, and three times at the World and European Championships. Dr. Valdis Juris Zeps (May 29, 1932 in Daugavpils, Latvia – July 25, 1996 in Riga, Latvia) was a Latvian-American linguist and college professor. Valdis Zatlers (; born 22 March 1955) is a Latvian politician and former physician who served as the seventh president of Latvia from 2007 to 2011. He won the Latvian presidential election of 31 May 2007. He became President of Latvia on 8 July 2007 and left office on 7 July 2011 after failing to win reelection for a second term. Medical career Valdis Zatlers is an orthopedic surgeon, who graduated from the Institute of Medicine in Riga in 1979. After his studies he worked in Riga Hospital No. 2 and became chief of its traumatology unit in 1985. Valdis Valters (born 4 August 1957) is a retired Latvian professional basketball player. He played at the point guard position for the senior USSR national team. He is regarded as one of the greatest players to have played the game in Europe in the 1980s. Considering his lengthy work and deep connection to the sport, Valters has been one of the most influential people in Latvian basketball history. He became a FIBA Hall of Fame player in 2017. Valdis Pultraks (1922–1972) was a Latvian football goalkeeper. He played for FC Riga Daugava and is considered one of the best Latvian goalkeepers in history. Early life At the age of 14 Pultraks had already played for FK Ausma from Auce in the Latvian Cup quarterfinals. Career Until the mid-1940s in addition to football Pultraks actively participated in athletics events - even in 1947 when he already played for FK Dinamo Rīga he won the bronze medal at the Latvian athletics championship in 100 meter run. Valdis Muktupāvels (9 November 1958 in Līvāni) is a Latvian people, Latvian ethnomusicologist, composer, musician, teacher and doctor of art criticism. Muktupāvels graduated 1980 from the University of Latvia and acquired a specialty in chemistry in 1983. He completed the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in 1996 with a doctorate in art criticism. Muktupāvels has worked for the University of Latvia since 1989; since 1999 at the Art History and Philology Faculty, and since 2002 as a professor.
