Val Doube
Valentine Joseph Doube (3 January 1915 – 18 January 1988) was an Australian politician. Born in Brighton to hat maker Francis William Robert Doube and Honora Fitzgerald, Doube was educated at St James' School in Gardenvale before studying at Melbourne University, receiving a Diploma of Physical Education in 1940. He taught physical education in primary schools from 1933 until 1941, when he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force. On 17 May 1941 he married Freda May Scott, with whom he had three sons. In 1943 he transferred to the Royal Australian Air Force, where he remained until the end of the war. In 1945, the year he joined the Labor Party, Doube began work at the Department of Immigration. In 1946, he unsuccessfully contested the federal seat of Henty in a by-election. John Cain (senior)
John Cain (19 January 1882 – 4 August 1957) was an Australian politician, who became the 34th premier of Victoria, and was the first Labor Party leader to win a majority in the Victorian Legislative Assembly. He is the only premier of Victoria to date whose son has also served as premier. Early life Cain was born, one of 18 siblings, in Greendale, Victoria, near Bacchus Marsh. His father, Patrick Kane, was an Irish-born Roman Catholic who worked as a small farmer and contractor. As a young man John Kane changed the spelling of his surname and converted to Anglicanism. He left no personal papers and very little is known about his youth (so little, indeed, that reference works published during his lifetime, and shortly after his death, continued to give the year of his birth as 1887). The electoral district of Albert Park is one of the electoral districts of Victoria, Australia, for the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It covers an area of in inner suburban Melbourne, and includes the suburbs of Albert Park, Middle Park, Port Melbourne, St Kilda West, Southbank, South Melbourne, South Wharf, and parts of St Kilda. It lies within the Southern Metropolitan Region of the upper house, the Legislative Council. It was first proclaimed in 1889, and has been held by the Labor Party without interruption since the 1950 election. Bunna Walsh
Ronald William "Bunna" Walsh (20 June 1933 - 30 March 2022) was a former Australian politician. He was born in Port Melbourne to labourer William John Joseph Walsh and Amy Lydia. He attended state schools and became a waterside worker in 1954. Having joined the Labor Party in 1960, he was an official with the Waterside Workers Federation from 1964 to 1979 and also served as president of the ALP's South Melbourne branch. In 1970 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council for Melbourne West, but his election was declared void later that year because of an old criminal conviction in the Children's Court. Walsh was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly in 1979 as the member for Albert Park. Keith Sutton (politician)
Patrick Keith Sutton (12 February 1896 – 6 April 1973) was an Australian politician. He was born at Portland to farmer John Patrick Sutton and Julia Minogue. Educated locally, he was a local journalist and was secretary of the Albert Park branch of the Labor Party from 1938. He married Mary Lucy McIntosh around 1924; they had two sons. From 1939 to 1952 he served on South Melbourne City Council (mayor 1943–44). In 1950 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Albert Park. Alan Henry Scanlan (born 23 June 1931) is an Australian politician. He was born in Caulfield to commercial traveller Edward Daniel John Scanlan and Winifred Bernice Fowler. He attended Melbourne High School and Melbourne Teachers' College, and worked as a teacher in London from 1958 to 1959. On 16 December 1961 he married fellow teacher Shirley Jane Pope, with whom he had one son. He had joined the Liberal Party in 1952 and been president of the Victorian Young Liberals from 1959 to 1961. In 1961 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the member for Oakleigh.
