Edward Henry Butler Vaizey, Baron Vaizey of Didcot, (born 5 June 1968) is a British politician, media columnist, political commentator and barrister who was Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries from 2010 to 2016. A member of the Conservative Party, he was Member of Parliament (MP) for Wantage from 2005 to 2019. Early life Vaizey was born in June 1968 in St Pancras, London. He is the son of the late John Vaizey, a Labour life peer, and the art historian Marina Vaizey (The Lady Vaizey CBE). His father's family is from South London. He spent part of his childhood in Berkshire. He was educated at St Paul's School, London before reading history at Merton College, Oxford. Mrs George De Horne Vaizey
Jessie Bell (1857 – 23 January 1917), later Jessie Mansergh, was an English writer born in Liverpool, who wrote under her married name Mrs George de Horne Vaizey. Life De Horne Vaizey was the daughter of Scottish insurance broker David Bell, and his wife, Elizabeth Morris Barton, and had six siblings, four brothers and two sisters. She married Henry Mansergh, a cotton broker, in 1883. They had a daughter, Gwyneth Alice, in 1886. She met her second husband, George de Horne Vaizey, on a Mediterranean cruise, which she won in a short story competition. Her son, named George after his father, also became a writer. Literature As her biography at Athelstane Books notes, "She often used her own varied experiences in her books. She used situations from her early life in a large family, her first husband’s addiction and death, and her own illnesses in her novels." John Vaizey, Baron Vaizey
John Ernest Vaizey, Baron Vaizey (1 October 1929 – 19 July 1984) was a British author and economist, who specialised in education. Background and education Vaizey was the son of Ernest Vernon Vaizey and his wife Lucy Butler Hart. He was educated at the school of Queen Mary's Hospital and went then to Queens' College, Cambridge.Dod (1984), p. 284 Career In 1952, he joined the United Nations Office at Geneva and after a year was elected a fellow at St Catharine's College, Cambridge. Three years later in 1956 Vaizey became a lecturer at the University of Oxford. He moved to the University of London in 1960, where he oversaw a research unit as its director for the next two years.
