Vahagn Chakhalyan
The United Javakhk Democratic Alliance ( hy, Միացյալ Ջավախք ժողովրդավարական դաշինք, translit=Miats’yal Javakhk’ Zhoghovrdavarakan dashink’) is a non-government organization composed of ethnic Armenians living in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region of Georgia. It has, at various times, called for local autonomy of the predominantly ethnic Armenian area of Javakheti known in Armenian as Javakhk, whence the organization's name. Its current leader is Vahagn Chakhalyan. History After Russians withdrew from the military base at Akhalkalaki (the Russian presence was considered by the local Armenians as their protection against the abuses by the Georgian authorities), some political parties in Armenia and the Armenian diaspora advocated for an outright annexation of Javakhk by Armenia. Some Armenian political groupings of Armenia and the diaspora, among them most notably the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) claim that Javakhk, as well as ...

Republic Of Artsakh
Artsakh, officially the Republic of Artsakh () or the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (),, is a breakaway state in the South Caucasus whose territory is internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan. Artsakh controls a part of the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast, including the capital of Stepanakert. It is an enclave within Azerbaijan. Its only overland access route to Armenia is via the wide Lachin corridor which is under the control of Russian peacekeepers. The predominantly Armenian-populated region of Nagorno-Karabakh was claimed by both the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the First Republic of Armenia when both countries became independent in 1918 after the fall of the Russian Empire, and a brief war over the region broke out in 1920. The dispute was largely shelved after the Soviet Union established control over the area, and created the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO) within the Azerbaijan SSR in 1923. In the leadup to the fall of the ...

List Of Active Separatist Movements In Europe
This is a list of currently active separatist movements in Europe. Separatism often refers to full political secession, though separatist movements may seek nothing more than greater autonomy or to be recognised as a national minority. What is and is not considered an autonomist or secessionist movement is sometimes contentious. Entries on this list must meet three criteria: # They are active movements with active members; # They are seeking greater autonomy or self-determination for a geographic region (as opposed to personal autonomy); # They are citizens/people of the conflict area and do not come from another country. Under each region listed is one or more of the following: * ''De facto'' state (de facto entity): for unrecognized regions with de facto autonomy; * Proposed state: proposed name for a seceding sovereign state; * Proposed autonomous area: for movements towards greater autonomy for an area but not outright secession; ** De facto autonomous government: for ...

Armenians In Georgia
Armenians in Georgia or Georgian Armenians ( ka, ქართველი სომხები, tr; hy, Վիրահայեր, ''Virahayer'') are Armenian people living within the country of Georgia. The Armenian community is mostly concentrated in the capital Tbilisi, Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia and Samtskhe-Javakheti region. 2014 Census of Georgia puts the Armenians in Samtskhe-Javakheti at 50.5% of the population. In Abkhazia, Armenians are the third largest ethnic group in the region after the Georgians and the Abkhazian majority. History Medieval Armenian historians and chroniclers, such as Movses Khorenatsi, Ghazar Parpetsi, Pavstos Buzand, and others were described Armenians in Georgia in large cities and historical provinces of this country. A large wave of Armenian settlers in the country's capital city of Tbilisi took place in the 12th–13th centuries, especially after 1122, in the aftermath of liberation of the Caucasus from Seljuk Turks by Georgian and Armeni ...

Armenians In Samtskhe-Javakheti
Armenians ( hy, հայեր, '' hayer'' ) are an ethnic group native to the Armenian highlands of Western Asia. Armenians constitute the main population of Armenia and the ''de facto'' independent Artsakh. There is a wide-ranging diaspora of around five million people of full or partial Armenian ancestry living outside modern Armenia. The largest Armenian populations today exist in Russia, the United States, France, Georgia, Iran, Germany, Ukraine, Lebanon, Brazil, and Syria. With the exceptions of Iran and the former Soviet states, the present-day Armenian diaspora was formed mainly as a result of the Armenian genocide.Richard G. Hovannisian, ''The Armenian people from ancient to modern times: the fifteenth century to the twentieth century'', Volume 2, p. 421, Palgrave Macmillan, 1997. Armenian is an Indo-European language. It has two mutually intelligible spoken and written forms: Eastern Armenian, today spoken mainly in Armenia, Artsakh, Iran, and the former Soviet r ...
