Loch Vaa
Loch Vaa is a body of water in Highland (council area), Highland, Scotland. It is located between Boat of Garten and Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park. It is used for fishing, swimming and boating and its wooden boathouse is a popular location for tourists and photographers. The loch also contains the remains of a historic crannog structure. In 2018-19 the loch was subject to a dramatic drop in water levels over a dry winter period and was not restored to usual levels until prolonged rainfall in July 2019. Description Loch Vaa is a spring-fed freshwater loch which is said to have "gin clear" waters. The loch is owned by a local estate but a number of businesses have been granted rights for fishing, swimming and boating activities. The fishery is managed and the lake is stocked with brown trout, brown and rainbow trout; it is also frequented by wild grebe. Aslaug Vaa
Aslaug Vaa (25 August 1889 – 28 November 1965) was a Norwegian poet and playwright. Her works contain elements from local tradition and landscape mixed with international influence. Personal life Aslaug Vaa was born on Nystog in Rauland, in Telemark county, Norway. She was the daughter of farmers Tor Aanundsson Vaa and Anne Marie Roholt, and was a sister of sculptor Dyre Vaa. She was married to Norwegian psychologist and writer Ola Raknes, and she was the mother of Magli Elster. Literary career Vaa graduated with examen artium from Aars og Voss skole in Kristiania in 1909, and with "anneneksamen" from the Royal Frederick University in 1911. After her first studies, she produced works as journalist and translator, including for the magazine ''Den 17de Mai''. While spending longer periods abroad together with her husband, she studied arts at Sorbonne in Paris, and experimental theatre in Berlin. Dyre Vaa
Dyre Vaa (19 January 1903 – 11 May 1980) was a Norwegian sculptor and painter. Background He was born in Kviteseid, Telemark, and later lived and worked in Rauland. He was the son of Tor Aanundsson Vaa (1864–1928) and Anne Marie Roholt (1866–1947). Vaa grew up the youngest of five siblings in a wealthy home. His father was one of the largest forest owners in Telemark. He graduated artium at Kristiania Cathedral School in 1920. Vaa studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry and at Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts from 1922–23, under Wilhelm Rasmussen, and later traveled to Spain, Greece and Italy for studies. Career In 1925, his first important work was a portrait of Minister of Education Ivar Peterson Tveiten (bronze. National Gallery of Norway).
