V Sport Jääkiekko ( Finnish for ''"Ice Hockey"'') is a pay television channel distributed in Finland, produced by Nordic Entertainment Group-owned Viasat, and primarily covering two major professional ice hockey leagues, the National Hockey League and the Kontinental Hockey League. The channel's major live broadcasts are usually presented in Finnish, although for the NHL games, the original English-language commentary from the North American feed is generally transmitted in a separate audio channel. Additionally, the channel rebroadcasts the NHL Network programming in English. The channel was launched on August 1, 2016, after Viasat's Finnish-language sports channel, Viasat Sport Finland (formerly named Viasat Hockey Finland) has been replaced with three specialized channels, the other two being Viasat Urheilu and Viasat Jalkapallo. 1080i (also known as Full HD or BT.709) is a combination of frame resolution and scan type. 1080i is used in high-definition television (HDTV) and high-definition video. The number "1080" refers to the number of horizontal lines on the screen. The "i" is an abbreviation for "interlaced"; this indicates that only the even lines, then the odd lines of each frame (each image called a video field) are drawn alternately, so that only half the number of actual image frames are used to produce video. Viasat (Nordic Television Service)
Viasat was a satellite and pay television brand, co-owned by the Swedish media group Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT) in the Nordic countries, Antenna Group in Hungary, and by Viasat World internationally. Founded in Sweden in 1991, Viasat has previously been owned by Modern Times Group. The channels of both companies were broadcast from London. In 2020 Viasat formed a joint venture with Canal Digital to form the company Allente. The merger was completed on April 13, 2021. V Sport Hockey is a sports channel that is broadcasting from the United Kingdom, primarily targeting Sweden but also available in Finland and Norway. Broadcasting was commenced on 1 September 2009, at the start of the 2009 ice hockey season. The channel focuses on the KHL, HockeyAllsvenskan, Kvalserien, Ice Hockey World Championships and NHL. The launch of the channel was announced 7 May 2009 during the 2009 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships. The channel is included in the Viasat sports package via satellite. Digital Terrestrial Television In Finland
Digital terrestrial television in Finland was launched on August 21, 2001. The analogue networks continued its broadcasts alongside the digital ones until September 1, 2007, when they were shut down nationwide. Before the analogue switchoff, the terrestrial network had three multiplexes: MUX A, MUX B and MUX C. MUX A contained the channels of the public broadcaster Yleisradio and MUX B was shared between the two commercial broadcasters: MTV3 and Nelonen. MUX C contained channels of various other broadcasters. After the analogue closedown, a fourth multiplex named MUX E was launched.
