Patrik Virta (born 6 March 1996) is a Finnish professional ice hockey forward who is currently an unrestricted free agent. He most recently played under contract with ERC Ingolstadt in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Virta was selected by the New York Rangers in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Virta made his professional debut in his native Finland, appearing in the Liiga playing with his original youth club, HPK during the 2014–15 season. Olavi Virta (originally to 1926 Oskari Olavi Ilmén) (27 February 1915 in Sysmä, Grand Duchy of Finland – 14 July 1972 in Pispala, Tampere, Finland) was a Finnish singer, acclaimed during his time as the "King" of Finnish tango. Between 1939 and 1966 he recorded almost 600 songs, many of which are classics of Finnish popular music, and appeared in many films and theatrical productions. Päivi Virta (previously Halonen; born 3 August 1964) is a Finnish retired ice hockey defenseman and one of the most highly decorated women in the history of Finnish ice hockey. As a member of the Finnish national team she won five World Championship bronze medals and five European Championship medals, four gold and one bronze. Playing career Virta started her premiere league career in the Naisten SM-sarja (renamed ''Naisten Liiga'' in 2017) with the Tampereen Ilves in 1982, the same year the league was established. Hannu Markus Virta (born March 22, 1963, in Turku, Finland) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey defenceman. He was named the best defenceman in the Finnish Elite League (SM-liiga) four times, and was a five-time all-star. He also won the Jarmo Wasama memorial trophy as rookie of the year in 1981–82. Career Virta was drafted in the second round, 38th overall, by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. He played 245 National Hockey League games with the Sabres over five seasons, scoring 25 goals and adding 101 assists. Nikolai Yevgenyevich Virta (russian: Никола́й Евге́ньевич Вирта́) (real name Karelsky) ( – January 3, 1976) was a Soviet writer who developed the theory of "conflictless" drama. Biography Nikolai Virta was born in the village of Bolshaya Lazovka in Tambov Governorate, into the family of a village priest who was shot in 1921 as a supporter of Aleksandr Antonov. From 1923 he worked as a reporter for newspapers and radio, and after 1930, he lived in Moscow. He took his writer name ''Virta'' (Finnish for "stream") as a reference to his Karelian forefathers. He won fame with his 1935 novel ''Odinochestvo'' (Alone), which he used as the basis for his play ''Zemlya'' (Earth, 1937).
