VELD Music Festival
VELD Music Festival (commonly referred to as VELD) is the largest annual electronic dance music festival in Canada, held at Downsview Park in Toronto, Ontario. The festival offers 3 stages, with a mix of Hip Hop artists in the lineup. Since its inception in 2012, the festival attracts crowds numbering in the tens of thousands and notable acts including Martin Garrix, Armin van Buuren, Hardwell, Steve Aoki, Zedd, Illenium, Tiesto, etc. The Toronto-native Deadmau5 used to be a first-day headliner for multiple years of the festival. He will be making a return in August, 2023 with a B2B set with Rezz in the alias; Rezzmau5, for the first time ever! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 and 2021 editions of the event were cancelled. Armin Jozef Jacobus Daniël van Buuren ( , ; born 25 December 1976) is a Dutch DJ and record producer from Leiden, South Holland. Since 2001, he has hosted ''A State of Trance'' (ASOT), a weekly radio show, which is broadcast to nearly 40 million listeners in 84 countries on over 100 FM radio stations. According to the website ''DJs and Festivals'', "the radio show propelled him to stardom and helped cultivate an interest in trance music around the world". Van Buuren has won a number of accolades. He has been ranked the number one DJ by ''DJ Mag'' a record of five times, four years in a row. Knife Party are an Australian electronic music duo consisting of Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen, two members of the drum and bass band Pendulum. The duo has worked with artists such as Swedish House Mafia, Steve Aoki, MistaJam, Foreign Beggars, I See MONSTAS, Tom Staar, Pegboard Nerds and Tom Morello. Knife Party peaked at 23rd on DJMag's 2013 Top 100 DJs rankings. Lorin Gabriel Ashton, better known under his stage name Bassnectar (born February 16, 1978), is an American DJ and record producer. Biography Ashton grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and attended Bellarmine College Preparatory. He initially identified with visual arts rather than music, creating movies with his dad's camera at the age of ten. When he was 16 years old, he played in a death metal band named Pale Existence, which contributed to his heavy style of music. Nicholas Daniel Miller (born December 26, 1990), professionally known as Illenium, is an American DJ, record producer, and songwriter. He has released four studio albums, his most recent being '' Fallen Embers'', released in July 2021. It earned Illenium his first Grammy nomination. One of Illenium's more notable albums, ''Ascend'', was released in August 2019 on Astralwerks. The album was Illenium's first to top the ''Billboard'' Dance/Electronic Albums chart and also reached his highest peak on the ''Billboard'' 200 at number 14.
