State Route 46 (SR 46) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. The state highway begins at the North Carolina state line near Valentines, where the highway continues as North Carolina Highway 46 (NC 46). SR 46 runs north from the state line to SR 40 in Blackstone. The state highway serves as the main north–south highway of Brunswick County, where it intersects U.S. Route 58 (US 58) in Lawrenceville and both Interstate 85 (I-85) and US 1 near Alberta. All of SR 46 in Brunswick County is a Virginia Byway. Route description SR 46 begins at the North Carolina state line south of the community of Valentines. The roadway continues southeast as NC 46 toward Gaston. U.S. Route 58 (US 58) is an east–west U.S. Highway that runs for from U.S. Route 25E just northwest of Harrogate, Tennessee, to U.S. Route 60 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Until 1996, when the Cumberland Gap Tunnel opened, US 58 ran only inside the commonwealth of Virginia (and it now runs only about 1 mile outside of Virginia into Tennessee before terminating). It was then extended southwest along a short piece of former US 25E, which no longer enters Virginia, to end at the new alignment in Tennessee. State Route 137 (SR 137) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. The state highway runs from SR 40 in Kenbridge east to SR 46 at Danieltown. SR 137 runs concurrently with SR 138 in eastern Lunenburg County and connects Kenbridge with SR 46, the main north–south highway of Brunswick County. Cochran is an unincorporated community located in Brunswick County, in the U.S. state of Virginia. The settlement is located along a former railroad. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Diamond Interchange
A diamond interchange is a common type of road junction, used where a controlled-access highway crosses a minor road. Design The freeway itself is grade-separated from the minor road, one crossing the other over a bridge. Approaching the interchange from either direction, an off-ramp diverges only slightly from the freeway and runs directly across the minor road, becoming an on-ramp that returns to the freeway in similar fashion.
