V. M. Kutty
Vadakkumgara Mohammed Kutty (known as V. M. Kutty; 16 April 1935 – 13 October 2021) was an Indian Mappilapattu singer, writer and composer. Also known as the ''Sultan of Mappilapattu'', he is often credited with having performed Mappila songs on stage for the first time in 1957. Kutty was known to be one of the most popular figures among mainstream Mappilapattu singers. He had also proven talent as a lyricist. Kutty played a major role in popularizing the Mappilappattu genre through experimenting with the traditional music stream. He was a member of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, Kerala Lalithakala Akademi and Maha Kavi Moyinkutty Vaidyar Smarakam. He was the vice chairman of Kerala Folklore Academy. He has also served as an honorary secretary to the Institute of Mappila Studies. The Maha Kavi Moyinkutty Vaidyar Smarakam () is a memorial building dedicated to Moyinkutty Vaidyar (1852–1892), often referred to as ''Mahakavi'' (great poet), who is historically considered one of the most renowned poets of the Mappila pattu genre of Malayalam language. About Moyinkutty Vaidyar Moyinkutty Vaidyar was born to Unni Mammad and Kunjamina in year 1852 at Ottupara, Malappuram district, Kerala. His father was famous practitioner of Ayurveda branch of medicines and poet of the times, he completed the work of his son based on ''Hijra'' from the 27th Ishal onwards. Moyinkutty Vaidyar continued his family tradition of Ayurvedic medical practice and hence he known as ‘Vaidyar’ (practitioner of Ayurvedic medicine). He learnt Sanskrit and Arabic languages. Kondotty is a developing town, municipality, and aerotropolis in the Malappuram district state of Kerala, India which is located near Calicut International Airport, 24 km from Malappuram. It is the headquarters of Kondotty Taluk, which was declared as the seventh taluk in Malappuram district by chief minister Oommen Chandy on 23 December 2013. Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University, also called Malayalam University, is a state university in Tirur, Kerala, India. Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award is an award given by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, an autonomous organisation for the encouragement, preservation, and documentation of the performing arts of Kerala, set up by the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Government of Kerala. Kerala Folklore Academy
Kerala Folklore Academy is an autonomous center for cultural affairs constituted by the Government of Kerala and works under the Department of Cultural Affairs.
