Vincent Barrett Price (born August 30, 1940) is an American poet, human rights and environmental columnist, editor, reporter, publisher, and teacher. His most recent works include the poetry volumes ''Polishing the Mountain, or Catching Balance Just in Time: Selected Poems 2008–2020'', ''Innocence Regained: Christmas Poems'', and ''Memoirs of the World in Ten Fragments'', and the nonfiction book ''The Orphaned Land: New Mexico's Environment Since the Manhattan Project''. He is the co-founder, with Benito Aragon, of the ''New Mexico Mercury,'' an online platform featuring news, commentary and analysis from a variety of experts and writers around New Mexico. Since January 2017, the ''Mercury Messenger'' has featured Price's online column of politics and the environment. Zach Hively (born 1985) is a humorist, poet, creative nonfiction author, and publisher. His most recent works include the poetry collections ''Desert Apocrypha,'' recipient of the Reading the West Book Award for poetry, ''Owl Poems'', and ''Wild Expectations''. He has written the Fool's Gold humor column since 2014, which has run in various alternative publications in the US American West. Levi Romero (poet)
Levi Romero (born April 5, 1961) is an American poet, academic, architect, and lecturer in creative writing and Chicano studies at the University of New Mexico. In 2012, he was named the centennial poet for New Mexico. Early life and education Romero was born in Dixon, New Mexico, located in the Embudo Valley. He enrolled at Española Valley High School in Española, New Mexico. He soon transferred to Peñasco High School in Penasco, New Mexico. Romero ultimately graduated from Menaul Boarding School in Albuquerque. After graduating from Menaul, Romero attended the University of New Mexico, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in architecture in 1994 and Master of Arts in architecture 2000. Romero has described his upbringing as "communal," noting that the families who inhabited the valley often shared child-rearing duties and other familial responsibilities. A poet laureate (plural: poets laureate) is a poet officially appointed by a government or conferring institution, typically expected to compose poems for special events and occasions. Albertino Mussato of Padua and Francesco Petrarca (Petrarch) of Arezzo were the first to be crowned poets laureate after the classical age, respectively in 1315 and 1342. Sandia Mountains
The Sandia Mountains (Southern Tiwa: ''Posu gai hoo-oo'', Keres: ''Tsepe,'' Navajo: ''Dził Nááyisí''; Tewa: ''O:ku:p’į'', Northern Tiwa: ''Kep’íanenemą''; Towa: ''Kiutawe'', Zuni: ''Chibiya Yalanne'') are a mountain range located in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, immediately to the east of the city of Albuquerque in New Mexico in the southwestern United States. Abiquiú, New Mexico
Abiquiú (, , Tewa: ; Northern Tiwa: ) is a census-designated place in Rio Arriba County, in northern New Mexico in the southwestern United States, about 53 miles (85 km) north of Santa Fe. As of 2010, the population was 231. Abiquiú's one school, an elementary school, is part of the Española Public Schools. Abiquiú means "wild choke cherry place" in the Tewa language. It is also called Santo Tomás de Abiquiú and the Pueblo of Santo Tomás de Abiquiú. In the mid-eighteenth century, the Spanish crown provided land grants to '' Genízaros'' here and in other places to establish buffer towns to defend the frontier from raiding tribes such as the Comanche. Manhattan Project
The Manhattan Project was a research and development undertaking during World War II that produced the first nuclear weapons. It was led by the United States with the support of the United Kingdom and Canada. From 1942 to 1946, the project was under the direction of Major General Leslie Groves of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Nuclear physicist Robert Oppenheimer was the director of the Los Alamos Laboratory that designed the actual bombs.
