Utricularia Heterochroma
''Utricularia heterochroma'' is a very small, possibly perennial, rheophytic carnivorous plant that belongs to the genus ''Utricularia''. ''U. heterochroma'' is endemic to Venezuela, where it is known from the type location at Ptari-tepui, two collections from Toronó-tepui, one collection from Apacará-tepui, one collection from Serrania Guanay, and several collections from the Chimantá Massif. It grows as a rheophyte on wet sandstone cliffs near waterfalls among mosses at altitudes from to . It was originally described and published by Julian Alfred Steyermark in 1953.Taylor, Peter. There are around 240 species in the genus ''Utricularia'', belonging to the bladderwort family (Lentibulariaceae). It is the largest genus of carnivorous plants and has a worldwide distribution, being absent only from Antarctica and the oceanic islands. This genus was considered to have 250 species until Peter Taylor reduced the number to 214 in his exhaustive study, ''The genus Utricularia - a taxonomic monograph'', published by HMSO (1989). Taylor's classification is generally accepted, though his division of the genus into two subgenera was soon seen as obsolete. Molecular genetic studies have mostly confirmed Taylor's sections with some modifications (Jobson et al., 2003), but reinstalled the division of the genus in three subgenera. Julian Alfred Steyermark (January 27, 1909 – October 15, 1988) was a Venezuelan American botanist. His focus was on New World vegetation, and he specialized in the family Rubiaceae. Life and work Julian Alfred Steyermark was born in St. Louis, Missouri as the only child of the businessman Leo L. Steyermark and Mamie I. Steyermark (''née'' Isaacs). He studied at the Henry Shaw School of Botany at Washington University in St. Louis, where he completed his Ph.D. in 1933. His distinguished career included the Field Museum of Chicago, the ''Instituto Botánico'' of Caracas, and he was with the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis from 1984 until his death.
