Utrecht Dragons
IJCU Dragons Utrecht is a professional ice hockey team in Utrecht, Netherlands. The team played under the name "Hoek Dragons Utrecht" in the Dutch Eredivisie, the top professional hockey division in the Netherlands in 2008-2009. In 2013, it ceased operations. However, the team was reborn in 2019, when they entered the Dutch "Eerste Divisie" (First Division) for the first time in 6 years, finishing with 8 wins, 10 losses, and 2 overtime losses. Home games are played at De Vechtsebanen. History Utrecht has had an ice hockey club for many years, including teams named "Dragons". For 2008-2009, the team created a professional squad to compete in the Eredivisie, finishing with a record of 2 wins and 22 losses. They played in the Eerste divisie, the top amateur league in the Netherlands until January 2013, when a loss of players required them to forfeit the remainder of the season. Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. Eredivisie (hockey)
The ''Eredivisie'' ("Premier League") was, during its existence, the only professional ice hockey league in the Netherlands and the highest level of competition organized by the Nederlandse IJshockey Bond (NIJB; English: "Dutch Ice Hockey Federation"). Formed in 1945 and playing continuously since 1964, the league mainly featured Dutch teams, although in some seasons certain Belgian teams competed. The league featured a mix of Dutch, European and overseas players. The winner of the Eredivisie was crowned the Dutch National Champion and represented the Netherlands in the IIHF Continental Cup. Eerste Divisie (ice Hockey)
The Eerste Divisie ('First Division') is the second level ice hockey league in the Netherlands. A semi-professional league, the Erste Divisie is directly below the professional BeNe League. Before the BeNe League was founded by Dutch and Belgian teams in 2015, the Eerste Divisie was the second level below the professional Eredivisie. With the creation of the binational BeNe League, the Eerste Divisie became the highest national ice hockey league in the Netherlands. Several Eerste Divisie teams are the secondary or developmental squads of BeNe League teams and often play out of the same arenas as their BeNe League affiliates. Since 2012, Eerste Divisie teams compete for the Dutch Cup with teams from the BeNe League and, previously, from the Eredivisie.
