Utah Division Of Arts And Museums
The Utah Division of Arts & Museums is a state government agency responsible for the promotion of arts and museums in Utah. It is a division of the Utah Department of Heritage and Arts. It includes the Utah Office of Museum Services and the Utah Arts Council as advisory and policy-making boards. The Division's primary offices, as well as its arts education and literary arts programs, are located in the Glendinning Home, next to the Governor's Mansion in Salt Lake City. Its folk arts and museum services programs are housed in the Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts. Its visual, public, and design arts programs operate from offices in the Rio Grande Depot in Salt Lake City. Utah Governor's Mansion
The Utah Governor's Mansion (also known as the Kearns Mansion) is the official residence of the governor of Utah and family. It is located at 603 East South Temple Street (within the South Temple Historic District) in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. Description Completed in 1902 for United States Senator and mining magnate Thomas Kearns, the house was designed by notable Utah architect Carl M. Neuhausen, who also designed the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City. Chase Home Museum Of Utah Folk Arts
The Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts is operated by the Utah Division of Arts & Museums, and has been the permanent home of the Utah State Folk Arts Collection since 1987 and is the only museum in the United States that is dedicated to displaying a state-owned collection of contemporary folk art produced by its residents. It is a venue for Utah's diverse artists and communities to share their folk art including: crafts, music, and dance. In addition to rotating exhibits, annual concerts, and hands-on workshops, the Chase Home Museum houses an archive of fieldwork recordings and photographs that document Utah's folk art and traditional culture. Alice Merrill Horne (1868–1948) was a Utah artist and politician. Biography Early life and education Alice Merrill Horne (called Allie in her youth) was born in Fillmore, Utah Territory, to Clarence Merrill and his wife Bathsheba (Kate) Smith. Her maternal grandparents were George A. Smith and Bathsheba W. Smith. Horne earned a teaching certificate and degree in pedagogy at the University of Deseret (now the University of Utah). She also studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and was later instructed privately by artists John Hafen, George M. Ottinger, J. T.
