Urunani BBC Players
Urunani BBC is a Burundian basketball club based in Bujumbura. Nicknamed ''"Sisi Wenyewe"'', the team plays in the Viva Basketball League (VBL). Since 1979, Urunani has won more than 15 titles of national champions of Burundi (some years the national championship was not held for several reasons). History The name Urunani means "being together, a strong and indestructible network". The club played in the Basketball Championship Amateurs de Bujumbura (ACBAB) for the first time in 1979. Urunani BBC has already won three international competitions organized by the FIBA Zone 5. The club also played in the FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup in 2011, 2013 and 2014. At mid-2021, Urunani reached an agreement with the ugandan club, City Oilers to bring back home Landry Ndikumana, and the rwandan club Tigers for Malick Ngenzahayo. Viva Basketball League
The Burundian Basketball Championship (in French: Championnat National du Burundi), for sponsorship reason the Viva Basketball League, is a semi-professional basketball league that is the highest level of the sport in Burundi. The league is organised by the Fédération de Basketball du Burundi (FEBABU). In 2022, the league signed a 4-year sponsorship contract with malt drink producer Viva; the winners of the league win a prize money of 10 million Burundian franc, FBu (approximately $4,800). Timajh Parker-Rivera (born February 9, 1994) is an American-Puerto Rican professional basketball player for Grises de Humacao of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN). Adonis Jovon Filer (born July 11, 1993) is a Rwandan-American basketball player who currently plays for APR. He also plays for the Rwanda national basketball team in International competitions. Early life Born and raised in Chicago, Filer attended Mount Carmel High School before transferring to the Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond, Indiana. He later also attended Notre Dame Preparatory School in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. College career Filer committed to the Clemson Tigers. In his rookie season, he averaged 10.0 points and 4.0 rebounds. Joe Guibert Nijimbere (born 26 December 1996) is a Burundian basketball player for Kepler and the Burundi national basketball team. Early life Nijimbere was born on 26 December 1996 in Mutanga-Nord, a suburb of Bujumbura, the largest city in the country. He was the second of 9 children. He grew up attending his father's Sunday league basketball games with his three brothers, all of whom ended up playing the sport. Landry Ndikumana (basketball)
Landry Ndikumana (born 14 February 1995) is a Burundian basketball player for Pazi and the Burundi national team. He is a 1.98 m (6 ft 6 in) tall small forward and has played professionally in Burundi, Uganda and Tanzania. Ndikumana was the NBL Uganda MVP and Playoffs MVP in the 2019 season. Career Ndikumana started his career with Burundian team Urunani and impressed in the FIBA Zone V Championships, winning MVP twice in a row. BAL Qualifying Tournaments
The Road to BAL, also known as the BAL Qualifying Tournaments, are the qualifying tournaments of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The organization of the qualifiers is in hands of FIBA Africa. The first qualifying rounds were held on 16 October 2019. The qualifiers are geographically divided into the West and East Division, with three teams qualifying out of each division. Semi-finals and finals are played to determine the winners of the qualifying tournaments. Format The national champions of each national federation (associated with FIBA Africa) can sign up for the BAL qualifiers. In the inaugural edition, a total of 31 teams from 31 countries participate in the qualifying tournaments to determine which six teams will play in the 2020 BAL regular season, along with six directly placed six teams.
