Urhan GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town land of Urhan (Ireland), Urhan in County Cork, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club, situated in the heart of the Beara Peninsula is exclusively concerned with the game of Gaelic football. The club plays in the Beara GAA, Beara division of Cork GAA. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. The association also promotes Irish music and dance, as well as the Irish language. Ciarán O'Sullivan
Ciarán O'Sullivan (born 5 July 1970) is an Irish Gaelic football selector and former player. His championship career with the Cork senior team spanned fourteen seasons from 1992 until 2005. O'Sullivan made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he was selected for the Cork minor team. He enjoyed one unsuccessful championship season with the minor team before playing with the under-21 side for three seasons. By this stage he had also joined the junior team, winning an All-Ireland medal in 1990. O'Sullivan joined the Cork senior team during the 1992 championship. Over the course of the following fourteen seasons he won five Munster medals and one National Football League medal. An All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions, O'Sullivan retired from inter-county football in 2005. Bobbie O'Dwyer
Robert O'Dwyer (born 1959) is an Irish Gaelic football selector, manager and former player. At club level he played with Urhan and Parnells and was a member of the London senior football team. O'Dwyer usually lined out as a forward. Playing career O'Dwyer began his Gaelic football career at club level with Urhan. After progressing through the juvenile and underage ranks, while also lining out at school's level with St Jarlath's College in Tuam, he eventually joined the club's top adult team and won a Beara Junior Championship title in 1980. By this stage O'Dwyer had already appeared on the inter-county scene, having won a Munster Minor Championship title with Cork in 1977. After emigrating to London, he lined out with the Parnells club, winning several County Championship titles, and spent a decade with the London senior football team. Nealie Duggan
Cornelius Duggan (1923 - 22 December 1996), known as Nealie Duggan, was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for club sides Urhan, St. Patrick's and Lees, divisional side Beara, at inter-county level with the Cork senior football team and with Munster. Career Duggan first came to Gaelic football prominence with the Urhan junior team, while also securing selection to the Beara divisional team. He consecutive Beara Junior Championship titles with Urhan in 1943-44, by which time he had also been added to the Cork senior football team. Duggan won his first Munster Championship title in 1943 and, in spite of being included on the team at the start of the 1945 provincial campaign, he was later suspended for allegedly playing illegally in Kerry. The suspension cost him an All-Ireland medal as Cork won that year's title after a defeat of Cavan. Jim Downing (Gaelic Footballer)
James Downing (1946 - 28 April 2012) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a midfielder for the Cork senior team. Born in Urhan, County Cork, Downing first played competitive football in his youth. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team, before later joining the under-21 and junior sides. He made his senior debut during the 1967 championship. Downing was a regular member of the panel for several years and won one Munster medal as a non-playing substitute. He was All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level Downing was a one-time Munster and championship medallist with divisional side Beara. He also won numerous championship medals with Urhan. Throughout his career Downing made just two championship appearances for Cork. He left the panel after the 1970 championship. Beara Junior Football Championship
The Beara Junior A Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Beara Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1927 for junior Gaelic football teams in the Beara Peninsula in County Cork, Ireland. The championship is currently suspended due to the fact that there are no teams categorised as junior A in the division. The title has been won at least once by eight different clubs. The all-time record-holders are Urhan, who have won a total of 28 titles. The Beara Junior Championship is an integral part of the wider Cork Junior A Football Championship. The Cork Junior A Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Co-Op Superstores Cork Junior A Football Championship and abbreviated to the Cork JAFC) is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking junior clubs in the county of Cork in Ireland. It is the fifth tier overall in the entire Cork football championship system. The Cork Junior Championship was introduced in 1895 as a countywide competition for teams deemed not eligible for the senior grade or second-string senior teams. Beara GAA is a division of Cork GAA, and is responsible for organizing Gaelic Athletic Association games in the Beara Peninsula in County Cork, Ireland. It is one of eight divisions of Cork County Board. It organizes competitions for the clubs within the division, from Under 12 up to the adult level. The winners of these competitions compete against other divisional champions to determine which club is the county champion. Currently, the following clubs are part of the Beara division - Castletownbere, Adrigole, Urhan, Garnish, Bere Island and Glengarriff. It has no senior football team so the only representative in the Cork Senior Football Championship is the divisional team.
