Unsworth Cricket Club
Unsworth Cricket Club are an English cricket team based in Unsworth, in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, currently playing in the Central Lancashire League. Introduction The ground is situated at the end of Pole Lane which leads down from the centre of Unsworth Village. It is bordered by the M66 but there is no exit from this. This is the new ground of Unsworth CC built in 2002–2003 after the sale of the old pitch to a property developer. The new ground is much larger and it is possible to extend the boundaries to Test playing size. the club have already played host to two separate Lancashire 2nd XI games with another planned for this year. The low-rise pavilion hosts a function room with capacity for 120 and a members' bar. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Unsworth is a village and residential area of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, in Greater Manchester, England. The population of Unsworth Ward, as of the United Kingdom Census 2011, 2011 census is 9,492. The village sits approximately north of the city of Manchester and 4 miles (6.4 km) south of the town of Bury, Greater Manchester, Bury, and contains the area of Hollins, and part of Sunnybank. Historically a part of Lancashire, Unsworth has been recorded as far back as the 13th century. The Metropolitan Borough of Bury is a metropolitan borough of Greater Manchester in North West England, just north of Manchester, to the east of Bolton and west of Rochdale. The Central Lancashire Cricket League (CLCL) was a fifteen team cricket league, traditionally based in Lancashire and the West Riding of Yorkshire. It was then based in Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire. The league ran competitions at First Team, Second Team, Third Team, Under 18, Under 15, Under 13 and Under 11 levels. The league was due to expand to a sixteen club format in 2005. Monton & Weaste were awarded the extra place ahead of Bamford Fieldhouse, Saddleworth, Elton, Walshaw, Didsbury and Bury. However, Stand left the league before the 2005 season and their replacement, Clifton did not join until 2006. That latter year also saw the introduction of a Twenty20 competition in the league, which was first won by Norden. 2015 was the final season for the league. Many of its clubs opting to join the new Greater Manchester Cricket League which started in 2016, CLCL merged with the Saddleworth League to form the Pennine League. Bury, Greater Manchester
Bury ( ) is a market town on the River Irwell in Greater Manchester, England. Metropolitan Borough of Bury is administered from the town, which had an estimated population of 78,723 in 2015. The town is within the historic county boundaries of Lancashire. It emerged in the Industrial Revolution as a mill town manufacturing textiles. Lancashire County League
Lancashire ( , ; abbreviated Lancs) is the name of a historic county, ceremonial county, and non-metropolitan county in North West England. The boundaries of these three areas differ significantly. The non-metropolitan county of Lancashire was created by the Local Government Act 1972. It is administered by Lancashire County Council, based in Preston, and twelve district councils.
