Unorganized Area (Canada)
An unorganized area or unorganized territory (french: Territoire non organisé) is any geographic region in Canada that does not form part of a municipality or Indian reserve. In these areas, the lowest level of government is provincial or territorial. In some of these areas, local service agencies may have some of the responsibilities that would otherwise be covered by municipalities. British Columbia Most regional districts in British Columbia include some electoral areas, which are unincorporated areas that do not have their own municipal government, but residents of such areas still receive a form of local government by electing representatives to their regional district boards. Municipality
A municipality is usually a single administrative division having corporate status and powers of self-government or jurisdiction as granted by national and regional laws to which it is subordinate. Unorganized South East Algoma District is an unorganized area in the Canadian province of Ontario, comprising a small unincorporated portion in the southeasternmost corner of the Algoma District. It comprises a small strip of land which lies between the territory of the Sagamok First Nation and the Algoma District's boundary with the Sudbury District, as well as several small islands within the North Channel of Lake Huron, such as Eagle, Fréchette, Fox, Hotham, Middleton, North and South Benjamin Islands. Unorganized North Sudbury District is an unorganized area in the Canadian province of Ontario, comprising all portions of the Sudbury District which are not organized into incorporated municipalities. Despite its name, there is no longer an accompanying "South Part", as that subdivision has subsequently been incorporated into municipalities and Statistics Canada has not renamed the North Part. The subdivision consists of three non-contiguous areas, totalling 35,594.71 square kilometres, or about 92% of the district. It had a population of 2,306 in the Canada 2011 Census. Rainy River, Unorganized, Ontario
Unorganized Rainy River District is an unorganized area in the Rainy River District of Ontario, Canada, comprising all communities in the district which are not part of incorporated municipalities. Quetico Provincial Park is located entirely within this area. The area has gradually been reduced in size as portions of it were annexed by surrounding incorporated townships. In 2004, the Township of Morley annexed the geographic townships of Sifton and Dewart, thereby splitting Unorganized Rainy River into two non-contiguous areas. The Township of Atikokan, as well as the Indian reserves of Rainy Lake 17A, 17B, 26A, Seine River 23A, and 23B, are enclaves within the unorganized area. Unorganized North East Parry Sound District is an unorganized area in Parry Sound District in Central Ontario, Canada. It is served by the local services board of Laurier and is part of the Almaguin Highlands region.
