Unorganized West Timiskaming District
Unorganized West Timiskaming District is an unorganized area in the Canadian province of Ontario, comprising almost all portions of the Timiskaming District which are not organized into incorporated municipalities. The division encompasses 10,239.58 square kilometres, and had a population of 3,257 in the Canada 2016 Census. An unorganized area or unorganized territory (french: Territoire non organisé) is any geographic region in Canada that does not form part of a municipality or Indian reserve. In these areas, the lowest level of government is provincial or territorial. In some of these areas, local service agencies may have some of the responsibilities that would otherwise be covered by municipalities. Kenogami Lake is an unincorporated place and community in the Unorganized West Part of Timiskaming District in northeastern Ontario, Canada. It is located on Kenogami Lake on the Blanche River in the Saint Lawrence River drainage basin. James, Ontario
James is an incorporated township in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in Timiskaming District. The primary community within the township is Elk Lake, which is located at the junction of Ontario Highway 65 and Ontario Highway 560. The township had a population of 420 in the Canada 2016 Census, compared to 424 in 2011. Elk Lake Airport and Elk Lake Water Aerodrome are located here. History Elk Lake began as a mining boom town when native silver was discovered in James Township in 1906. Mining activity peaked between 1907 and 1913, when there were about thirty active mining properties in the area. The population at one point reached almost 10,000 people. Tomstown is an unincorporated community in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in the unincorporated township of Ingram within the Unorganized, West Part division of Timiskaming District. Tarzwell is an unincorporated community in the Canadian province of Ontario, located within the Unorganized, West Part division of Timiskaming District. Tarzwell was founded by the late James Tarzwell of Erin Township, ON. James Tarzwell initially requested the name of 'Round Lake' for the community but he was informed by the Province of Ontario that the name Round Lake was already in use.
