Unión Magdalena () commonly known as El Unión, and nicknamed as El Ciclón Bananero (The Banana Cyclone) and also Los Samarios (The Samarios), is a Colombian football club from the city of Santa Marta, capital of the department of Magdalena, founded on April 19 1953. They currently play in the Primera A, first division of the Dimayor. Founded on 10 March 1951 as ''Deportivo Samarios'', the club was re-founded as Unión Magdalena on 19 April 1953. The original playing squad was largely composed of Hungarians who were touring Colombia when their club, the Hungaria FbC Roma, was disbanded. History Unión Magdalena was founded as ''Deportivo Samarios'' on 10 March 1951. The team was founded with the help of José Eduardo Gnecco Correa and Eduardo Dávila Riascos and was formed by the squad of the Hungaria FbC Roma when it was disbanded after a tour in South America. Estadio Sierra Nevada (Spanish: ''Estadio Sierra Nevada'' ) (also known as Estadio Unidad Bolivariana Bureche) is a football stadium in the city of Santa Marta, Colombia. The stadium was opened on 11 November 2017. It was the host stadium for the football matches at the 2017 Bolivarian Games and home stadium for local football club Unión Magdalena starting from 2018. The stadium is designed with a capacity of 16,162 people. Due to delays, the stadium could not be completed by the start of the Bolivarian Games. History Construction The decision to build the new stadium for the city of Santa Marta was made by mayor Rafael Martínez after Colombia won the bid to host the 2017 Bolivarian Games, which is organized by ODEBO. Considering it was better to build a multipurpose scenario rather than remodeling the Eduardo Santos Stadium, since the order to permanently close the Eduardo Santos was due to it presenting precarious safety conditions for those attending. 2021 Categoría Primera B Season
The 2021 Categoría Primera B season (officially known as the 2021 Torneo BetPlay DIMAYOR season for sponsorship reasons) was the 32nd season of the Categoría Primera B since its founding as Colombia's second division football league. The tournament started on 15 January 2021 and ended on 10 March 2022. Atlético Huila were the defending champions, having been unable to earn promotion to the Categoría Primera A despite winning the previous tournament. Deportes Quindío won their second Primera B title in the Torneo I, defeating Cortuluá in the final over two legs, whilst Unión Magdalena were the champions in the Torneo II, beating Cortuluá in the final on penalties after a 1–1 draw to claim their first title.
