The University of Dyrrachium ( la, Universitas Studiorum Dyrrhachium, sq, Universiteti i Studimeve të Durrёsit) was a theological university (Studium generale) in Durrës (Dyrrhachium), Venice, then Republic of Venice. The university was established around 1380, and then transferred to Zadar in 1396, amid the mounting Turkish threats in South-eastern Europe, thereby becoming the University of Zadar. Studium Generale
is the old customary name for a medieval university in medieval Europe. Overview There is no official definition for the term . The term ' first appeared at the beginning of the 13th century out of customary usage, and meant a place where students from everywhere were welcomed, not merely those of the local district or region. In the 13th century, the term gradually acquired a more precise (but still unofficial) meaning as a place that (1) received students from all places, (2) taught the arts and had at least one of the higher faculties (that is, theology, law or medicine) and (3) that a significant part of the teaching was done by those with a master's degree. A fourth criterion slowly appeared: a master who had taught and was registered in the Guild of Masters of a ' was entitled to teach in any other without further examination. Durrës
Durrës ( , ; sq-definite, Durrësi) is the second most populous city of the Republic of Albania and seat of Durrës County and Durrës Municipality. It is located on a flat plain along the Albanian Adriatic Sea Coast between the mouths of the Erzen and Ishëm at the southeastern corner of the Adriatic Sea. Aleksandër Moisiu University of Durrës ( sq, Universiteti "Aleksandër Moisiu" Durrës; initialism: UAMD), also Aleksandër Moisiu University or University of Durrës, is the newest Public university, public academic institution of the Republic of Albania. The University is located in the ancient city of Durrës. The university was founded on 20 December 2005 by the Albanian Government. It was inaugurated in 2006 and is using the Education in the United States, American system of education, unlike the rest of the public universities in the country. More than 1,300 students started classes as of 2 October 2006. University of Durrës took its name from Austrian-Italy, Italian actor Aleksandër Moisiu, who was of Albanians, Albanian descent.
