University High School (Spokane Valley)
University High School, often referred to as "U-Hi" or "U-High", is a public high school for grades nine through twelve in Spokane Valley, Washington, United States. It is part of the Central Valley School District in Spokane Valley. In late 2002, the school campus moved approximately to its current location. The current building is capable of housing around 1650 students. Because of the growing number of students attending, U-High is no longer accepting additional students, and many of the teachers must trade classrooms during the day. Facility The building opened in late 2002, and has of space sits on a site. The school has 75 teaching stations divided among general classrooms, business, science, art, music, professional-technical and health/fitness areas. Central Valley School District No. 356 is a K–12 public school district located in Spokane Valley and Liberty Lake, Washington. Over 14,100 students attend one of the twenty-one schools within the district. History The school district was founded in 1890 as Vera District. Going to school was difficult, especially compared to modern standard, as there was no good transportation system and little funding. In the 1920s, Vera District, as well as four near by school districts were consolidated. Vera, Greenacres, Liberty Lake, Saltese, and Lone Fir school districts were merged to make the district more effective. Technology Student Association
The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national student organization created to develop skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) as well as business education. TSA aims to develop leadership, academic, and business management skills in the workplace among students and leaders within the community. The organization has 250,000 members. Competition Competitive events are separated into middle school and high school levels, with students competing only with their respective age group. Competitions take place at the local, regional, state, and national level. Tyler Ray Olson (born October 2, 1989) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, and Cleveland Indians. Amateur career Olson attended University High School in Spokane Valley, Washington. He enrolled at Gonzaga University and pitched for the Gonzaga Bulldogs baseball team. He pitched for the Bulldogs as a freshman in 2009, but took a redshirt in 2010 when he suffered a shoulder subluxation. In 2012, his junior year, he was added to the Bulldogs' starting rotation, and pitched 110 innings. The Oakland Athletics selected Olson in the 17th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft. The Tennessee Lady Volunteers basketball team represents the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee in NCAA women's basketball competition. Angela Deanne Bjorklund (born July 14, 1989) is a retired a women's NCAA basketball player for the Tennessee Lady Vols. Bjorklund is a former American professional basketball player for the Chicago Sky drafted in the 2011 WNBA draft. Her older sister, Jami, was a forward for Kelly Graves' Gonzaga Bulldogs women's basketball team from 2005 to 2009, playing alongside Sky teammate at the time; Courtney Vandersloot. Zack Davisson is a writer, editor, lecturer, scholar and translator, especially known for translating Shigeru Mizuki's and Matsumoto Leiji's manga. He is also well known for his works on Japanese folklore and ghosts. In 2015, Davisson wrote his first book, ''Yurei: The Japanese Ghost''. Davisson went on to translating works of Shigeru Mizuki, a popular manga artist and historian in Japan, into English.
