Sultan Azlan Shah University (''Malay language, Malay: Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah'') (USAS) is a private university in Malaysia. Situated in Kuala Kangsar District, Kuala Kangsar, Perak, it was previously known as Sultan Azlan Shah Islamic University College (KUISAS). History Initially named as the Darul Ridzuan Islamic College (KISDAR), USAS was founded under the authority of the Islamic Religious Schools Enactment 1996. KISDAR was initiated at the behest of the then Sultan of Perak Darul Ridzuan, the late Sultan Azlan Shah of Perak, Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah in 1986. The institution was later realised in 1999 with its temporary campus located at Jalan Dato’ Seri Shaari, Off Jalan Raja DiHilir, Ipoh and officiated by Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah on October 16, 1999. Perak () is a state of Malaysia on the west coast of the Malay Peninsula. Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Yussuff Izzuddin Shah Ghafarullahu-lah ( Jawi: ; 19 April 1928 – 28 May 2014) was the 34th Sultan of Perak and served as the ninth Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia from 26 April 1989 to 25 April 1994. The child of a royal father and commoner mother, he grew up in Perak, Malaysia. During school he played field hockey, subsequently playing for the Perak team.
