The National University of Pilar (Acronym: UNP) is a Paraguayan national and public university with a range of degree offerings. The main campus is located in the capital of the Ñeembucú Department, the city of Pilar. It was founded in 1991 and created by law in 1994. Pilar () is the capital city of the Paraguayan department of Ñeembucú, located along the Paraguay River in the southwestern part of the country. Located about from Asunción, Pilar serves as an important center of commerce and government for the far southwestern region of the country. Ñeembucú (; Guaraní: ''Ñe'ẽmbuku'') is a department located in the south of the Eastern Region of Paraguay. The capital is Pilar. Ayolas is a city in the department of Misiones, Paraguay, located at 310 km southeast of Asunción, on the banks of the Paraná River. It is, also, the name of the district within which the city is located.
