United States National Beach Handball Team
The United States national beach handball team (USA Beach Handball) is the national team of the United States. It is governed by USA Team Handball and takes part in international beach handball competitions. Restart of the program in 2015 In May 2015, USA Team Handball officially decided to start an international beach handball program under the direction of former Olympic USA Team Handball player and coach Dennis Burkholtz. On the day the program was announced, former USA National Team player for indoor handball Mike Hinson, approached Dennis about starting a program and coaching a team based out of Southern California. Coach Hinson, having played beach handball for 14 years, knew about beach handball and believed the United States could put together a team that could compete at the highest level pretty quickly. USA Team Handball is the governing body for handball in the United States. USA Team Handball is funded in part by the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee. Previously, the governing body was the United States Team Handball Federation. USA Team Handball is led by an 9-person Board of Directors. The president is Michael J. Wall. USA Team Handball organizes the participation of U.S. national teams in international competitions, such as the Summer Olympics and the Pan American Games. The United States men's national handball team and the United States women's national handball team have struggled in international competitions against nations where handball is more popular. 2022 Men's Beach Handball World Championships
The 2022 Men's Beach Handball World Championships will be ninth edition of the championship to be held from 21 to 26 June 2022 at Crete, Greece under the aegis of International Handball Federation (IHF). The 2014 Beach Handball World Championships were a twelve-team tournament in both men's and women's beach handball, held at Recife, Brazil from 22–27 July, 2014. It was the sixth edition of the event. Just like two years prior, Brazil again won the gold medal in both, the men's and women's competition. Format The twelve teams were split into two groups of six teams. After playing a round-robin, the three top ranked team advanced to the Main Round. Every team kept the points from preliminary round matches against teams who also advanced. In the main round every team had 3 games against the opponents they did not face in the preliminary round. The top four teams advanced to the Semifinals. The three bottom ranked team from each preliminary round group were packed into one group.
