United States Speedway National Championship
The United States Speedway National Championship is an annual Motorcycle speedway, speedway championship to decide one of the two national champions of the United States. The Championship has always been staged at Costa Mesa Speedway and dates back to 1969. Since 1998 when Costa Mesa promoters split from the AMA, the competition has run completely separately from the AMA National Speedway Championship. It is not affiliated to the FIM. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . There are now both domestic and international competitions in a number of countries, including the Speedway World Cup, whilst the highest overall scoring individual in the Speedway Grand Prix events is pronounced the world champion. Sam Ermolenko
Guy Allen 'Sudden Sam' Ermolenko (born November 23, 1960 Maywood, California) is a former speedway rider. In 1993 he won the Speedway World Championship in Pocking, Germany.Bamford, R. & Shailes, G. Broc Nicol (born April 22, 1998) is a speedway rider from the United States. Career Nicol won the United States Championship twice in 2017 and 2020. Nicol began his British racing career riding for Sheffield Tigers in 2018. The following season he remained with Sheffield but also rode in the top tier of British Speedway for King's Lynn Stars. Billy Hamill
William Gordon Hamill (born 23 May 1970, in California, United States) is an American international motorcycle speedway rider. He is a former Speedway World Champion, winning the title in 1996. Career Early career Hamill began junior speedway in California in 1983, eventually turning professional in 1986. In 1990, he left California to race for Cradley Heathens in the British League, joining fellow Californian and friend Greg Hancock. In his debut season of racing in Europe, Hamill won his first FIM Gold Medal as the USA won the World Team Cup. 1991–95 In 1991, Hamill again rode for the Heathens and he also made his World Final debut at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg scoring six points.
