Edinburgh Monarchs
The Edinburgh Monarchs are a Scottish Speedway team, currently based in Armadale. They compete in the SGB Championship, racing on Friday nights during the Speedway season. The club is run by a board of directors, chaired by Alex Harkess. The club also runs a National Development League team called the Armadale Devils. History The club was founded in 1928 and operated at Marine Gardens, Portobello in 1929, 1930, 1931, 1938 and 1939. A few team matches were staged in 1929 and an Edinburgh team competed in the Northern League in 1930. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . The SGB Championship 2018 was the 2018 season of the second division of Great British speedway. The season ran between March and October 2018 and consisted of 11 teams participating. 2021 AMA National Speedway Championship
The 2021 AMA National Speedway Championship Series was staged over two rounds, held at Owego, New York (September 5) and Auburn, California (September 25). Three rounds were initially scheduled, however the first round at Greene, New York was cancelled due to poor track conditions. It was also the first championship since 2019, after the 2020 series was not held due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was won by Max Ruml, who beat Gino Manzares and Billy Janniro to the title. It was the first time Ruml had won the title, having previously finished as runner-up on four separate occasions. Event format Over the course of 20 heats, each rider raced against every other rider once. The top eight scorers then reached the semi-finals, with first and second in those semi-finals reaching the final. Points were scored for every ride taken, including the semi-finals and final. 2023 AMA National Speedway Championship
The 2023 AMA National Speedway Championship Series was staged over three rounds, held at Bakersfield (June 24), Industry Hills (August 5) and Auburn, California (September 16). The title was won by Max Ruml, with Broc Nicol finishing second and 11-time champion Billy Janniro completing the podium. Dillon Ruml
Dillon Ruml (born 4 March 1999) is a speedway rider from the United States. Speedway career Ruml was the AMA Best Pairs Speedway National Champion in 2018 and 2019. In 2021, he joined the Plymouth Gladiators for his first season in British speedway, riding in the SGB Championship 2021. In 2022, Ruml signed for the Oxford Cheetahs for the 2022 season. The Cheetahs were returning to action after a 14-year absence from British Speedway. He was named rider of the year for the Cheetahs but was released at the end of the season due to difficulties over the points limit for 2023.
