The United States competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, from 4 to 20 February 2022. On January 24, 2022, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee named a team of 224 athletes. Curler John Shuster and speed skater Brittany Bowe were named U.S. flagbearers for the opening ceremony. Bobsledder Elana Meyers Taylor was named flagbearer for the closing ceremony. The United States won eight gold and 25 medals overall at the 2022 Winter Olympics, finishing fourth in the medal standings for the third Winter Olympics in a row. Notable successes included Jessie Diggins becoming the first American female skier to win individual cross-country medals, figure skater Nathan Chen breaking the short program world record en route to the Olympic gold medal in the men's singles, Erin Jackson becoming the first black female athlete to win speed skating gold, and Chloe Kim defending her title in the snowboarding women's halfpipe. Lindsey Jacobellis
Lindsey Jacobellis (born August 19, 1985) is an American snowboarder from Roxbury, Connecticut. The most decorated female snowboard cross athlete of all time, she dominated the sport for almost two decades as a five-time World Champion and ten-time X Games champion. In her Olympic debut at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Jacobellis won the silver medal in snowboard cross but was unable to medal at the next three Olympics until winning gold at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. The mixed team snowboard cross competition in snowboarding at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 12 February, at the Genting Snow Park in Zhangjiakou. This was the first time a mixed snowboarding event would be featured at the Olympics. Nick Baumgartner and Lindsey Jacobellis of the United States won the event. Jacobellis added a second gold to the one she won two days earlier in the individual snowboard cross (which was also Team USA's first 2022 Olympic gold), while Baumgartner won his first Olympic medal. The women's halfpipe competition in snowboarding at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 9 February (qualification) and 10 February (final), at the Genting Snow Park in Zhangjiakou. Freestyle skiing at the 2022 Winter Olympics were held at the Genting Snow Park in Zhangjiakou and Big Air Shougang in Beijing, China. The events were held between 3 and 19 February 2022. A total of 13 freestyle skiing events were held. In July 2018, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially added three events to the Olympic program: big air for men and women, along with a mixed team aerials event. A total of 284 quota spots (142 per gender) were distributed to the sport, a decline of 4 from the 2018 Winter Olympics. A total of 13 events were contested, six for men, six for women and one mixed. Qualification A maximum of 284 quota spots are available to athletes at the games. A maximum of 30 athletes could be entered by a National Olympic Committee, with a maximum of 16 men or 16 women. Justin Schoenefeld (born August 13, 1998) is an American freestyle skier who specializes in aerials. Career Schoenefeld made his debut at the Nor-Am Cup for in Park City, Utah in December 2014, finishing 12th and 10th. During the 2015–16 season, he finished in the top ten five times, placing ninth in the Aerials discipline standings. He got his first victory in this series in Lake Placid. At the 2017 Junior World Championships in Chiesa in Valmalenco, he finished in 15th place. In the 2017–18 season, he won the Aerials discipline standings in the Nor-Am Cup with three wins.
