United Nations Special Rapporteur On The Occupied Palestinian Territories
The Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, formally the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 is a Special Rapporteur who works for the United Nations and reports on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. The mandate was established in 1993 by the former Commission on Human Rights. Post-holders Francesca Albanese (Italy) was appointed in 2022 to take up the post of Special Rapporteur. Francesca Albanese
Francesca P. Albanese (born 1977) is an international lawyer and academic, an Italian national with two young children. She was elected for a three year term, renewable for a further 3 years. An Affiliate Scholar at the Institute for the Study of International Migration at Georgetown University and Senior Advisor on Migration and Forced Displacement at the non-profit Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development. René Felber
René Felber (14 March 1933 – 18 October 2020) was a Swiss politician. He was a member of the Swiss Federal Council from 1987 to 1993. In 1992, he served as the President of Switzerland. Personal life Born 1933 in Bienne, Felber was a teacher in Boudevilliers and Le Locle (canton of Neuchâtel). Felber died on 18 October 2020 at the age of 87. The United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) was a functional commission within the overall framework of the United Nations from 1946 until it was replaced by the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2006. Michael Lynk
Stanley Michael Lynk (born 1952) is a Canadian legal academic. He is currently an associate professor at the University of Western Ontario and the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian Territories occupied since 1967. Early life and education Michael Lynk was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia to parents: Sarah and Stanley Lynk. His maternal grandparents were Lebanese emigrants to Canada. Lynk earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dalhousie University in 1974, followed by a bachelor of laws from the same university in 1981, before completing a master of law at Queen's University. Professional career Lynk is an associate professor of law at the University of Western Ontario. Richard Anderson Falk (born November 13, 1930) is an American professor emeritus of international law at Princeton University, and Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor's Chairman of the Board of Trustees. In 2004, he was listed as the author or coauthor of 20 books and the editor or coeditor of another 20 volumes. Falk has published extensively with multiple books written about international law and the United Nations. In 2008, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) appointed Falk to a six-year term as a United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967. Christopher John Robert Dugard (born 23 August 1936 in Fort Beaufort), known as John Dugard, is a South African professor of international law. His main academic specializations are in Roman-Dutch law, public international law, jurisprudence, human rights, criminal procedure and international criminal law. He has served on the International Law Commission, the primary UN institution for the development of international law, and has been active in reporting on human-rights violations by Israel in the Palestinian territories. Giorgio Giacomelli (25 January 1930, in Milan – 8 February 2017, in Rome) was an Italian diplomat who represented Italy as ambassador to Somalia and Syria and was UNRWA's Commissioner-General from 1985 to 1991. Biography Giacomelli was the Italian Ambassador to Somalia from 1973 to 1976 and Ambassador to Syria from 1976 to 1980. In 1981 he became Director-General for Emigration and Social Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and then, until October 1985, Director–General of the Department of Cooperation and Development. From 1985 to 1991 he was Commissioner-General of UNWRA.
