United Democratic Party (Myanmar)
The United Democratic Party ( my, ညီညွတ်သောဒီမိုကရက်တစ်ပါတီ; abbreviated UDP) was a Burmese political party. The party was registered in May 2010, and dissolved by Myanmar's Union Election Commission in October 2020, for possessing illegal funds. UDP was also known as the Rose Party for the rose featured in its party logo. The party had courted enduring scrutiny for its controversial ties to Michael Kyaw Myint, a convicted businessman with ties to the United Wa State Party. The Union Election Commission ( my, ပြည်ထောင်စု ရွေးကောက်ပွဲ ကော်မရှင်, abbreviated UEC) is the national level electoral commission of Myanmar (Burma), responsible for organising and overseeing elections in Burma, as well as vetting parliamentary candidates and political parties. Michael Kyaw Myint
Michael Kyaw Myint Hua Hu ( my, ကျော်မြင့်; ), also known as Zakhung Zung Sau, is a Sino-Burmese businessman, known for his ties to the United Wa State Army (UWSA) and for founding the now-defunct United Democratic Party. Early life Kyaw Myint was born in 1951, in Kachin State, Burma (now Myanmar). He married Nan Bauk, the youngest daughter of Zau Mai, a high-ranking officer in the United Wa State Army and Communist Party of Burma, of Kachin descent. Kyaw Myint became intimately involved in the UWSA's illicit business activities, including heroin and methamphetamine trafficking. Criminal activities Money laundering In the 1990s, Kyaw Myint established Myanmar Kyone Yeom, to launder the UWSA's drug proceeds. United Wa State Party
The United Wa State Party (UWSP) is the ruling party of Wa State, an autonomous region in northern Shan State, Myanmar (Burma). It was founded on 3 November 1989 as a merger between the Burma National United Party (BNUP) and several smaller, non-communist Wa groups. Its armed wing is the United Wa State Army (UWSA), and its chairman and commander in chief is Bao Youxiang. General elections were held in Myanmar on 8 November 2020. 2021 Myanmar Coup D'état
A coup d'état in Myanmar began on the morning of 1 February 2021, when democratically elected members of the country's ruling party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), were deposed by the Tatmadaw—Myanmar's military—which then vested power in a military junta. Myanmar Alin ( my, မြန်မာ့အလင်း; also known as Myanma Alinn) is a state-run Burmese language daily newspaper and the longest running newspaper in circulation in Myanmar. The daily is considered to be the official mouthpiece of the government of Myanmar.
