Unionville, Ontario
Unionville is a suburban district and former village in Markham, Ontario, Canada, 2 km (2.5 mi) west of Markham Village (the City of Markham's historic downtown), and 33 km (20.5 mi) northeast of Downtown Toronto. The boundaries of Unionville are not well-defined. Several neighbourhoods claim to be part of it however, this has been disputed between the various wards. Unionville was founded north of 16th Avenue in 1794, and many of the farms on and around Kennedy Road. The Unionville Ratepayers Association designated a newer street, Rodick Road, as its western boundary, in the 1980s. Main Street Unionville, which was Kennedy Road in the mid-to-late 20th century, runs through Unionville while the new Kennedy Road runs to the east. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. Curling Canada (formerly the Canadian Curling Association (CCA)) is a sanctioning body for the sport of Curling in Canada. CurlON
CurlON (formerly the Ontario Curling Association) is the governing body of curling in Southern Ontario. Northern Ontario is governed by the Northern Ontario Curling Association (NOCA). The CurlON sends a team to represent Team Ontario at all major Canadian Championships. The NOCA sends a separate team to all of these events. CurlON was founded in 1875. Hollie Duncan
Hollie Duncan (born January 6, 1987 in Toronto, Ontario as Hollie Nicol) is a Canadian curler. She currently skips her own team on the World Curling Tour. Career Juniors As a bantam-aged curler, Duncan skipped her Unionville Curling Club rink to a provincial Bantam championship in 2002. In 2004, Duncan represented the Bayview Country Club when her team won the Ontario Winter Games championship. Duncan wrapped up her junior career by winning the 2007 provincial junior championship. Her rink of Laura Hickey, Karen Sagle and Hilary McDermott from the Kitchener-Waterloo Granite Club would then go on to represent Ontario at the 2007 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. At the juniors, Duncan led Ontario to a 7–5 record, which was not good enough to make the playoffs. Duncan had a successful university curling career, playing for Wilfrid Laurier University. Ray Ross Grant (1934 – July 24, 2020) was a Canadian curler. He played in three Briers, Canada's national men's curling championship, and one Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. Grant began curling in 1950 in Toronto at the Royal Canadian Curling Club. He joined his father Andrew's rink in 1954 at lead, winning his first Ontario men's championship in 1955. Shane Konings (born September 28, 1990) is a Canadian curler, originally from Gowanstown, Ontario. Career Mixed doubles Konings won the 2020 Ontario Mixed Doubles Curling Championship with Lauren Wasylkiw, but did not compete at the 2020 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, as it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the 2021 Ontario provincial playdowns were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Ontario, Wasylkiw and Konings were selected to represent Ontario at the 2021 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Calgary. Lauren Wasylkiw (; born June 26, 1990) is a Canadian curler originally from Kleinburg, Ontario. She was the second for Team Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2013 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Career Women's Wasylkiw played second for the Brock Badgers, skipped by Courtney Hodgson, at the 2011 CIS/CCA Curling Championships.
