Union Nationale (Quebec)
The Union nationale () was a conservative and nationalist provincial political party in Quebec, Canada, that identified with Québécois autonomism. It was created during the Great Depression and held power in Quebec from 1936 to 1939, and from 1944 to 1960 and from 1966 to 1970. The party was founded by Maurice Duplessis, who led it until his death in 1959. The party was often referred to in English as the National Union, especially when it was still an electoral force, by both the media and, at times, the party. History Origin The party started when the Action libérale nationale, a group of dissidents from the Quebec Liberal Party, formed a loose coalition with the Conservative Party of Quebec. In the 1935 Quebec election the two parties agreed to run only one candidate of either party in each riding. The Rwandese National Union (french: Union nationale rwandaise, UNAR) was a conservative, pro-monarchy political party in Rwanda. History Union Nationale Rwandaise (Rwandese National Union), or UNAR, was a conservative Rwandan political party. Founded on 3 September 1959, by François Rukeba, and strongly supported by King Kigeri V. At the time, Rwanda was still under Belgian administration, and UNAR was the leading monarchist party. It called for immediate independence under a hereditary Tutsi constitutional monarchy. Michel Rwagasana became its secretary general. The party boycotted the 1960 local elections, but participated in the 1961 parliamentary elections, receiving 17% of the vote, winning 7 of the 44 seats in the Legislative Assembly. The Chadian National Union (french: Union nationale tchadienne, UNT) was a radical Muslim political party in Chad. History The party was founded in 1958 by Issa Dana, Mahamut Outman and Abba Siddick. Created to lobby the "no" vote to the referendum on Chad's entry in the French Community, the party advocated drastic political reforms, to be achieved if necessary through violence. The party was banned in 1962 when President François Tombalbaye proclaimed the Chadian Progressive Party the sole legal party. It survived as a clandestine organization under the leadership of Ibrahim Abatcha. The National Union (french: Union nationale) was a Fascist political party in Switzerland between 1932 and 1945. It was mainly active in the canton of Geneva. History The party was founded in Geneva in 1932 by lawyer and writer Georges Oltramare. Noted for his anti-semitic writing, Oltramare had founded the ''Ordre politique nationale'' in 1930, which merged with the ''Union de défense économique'', founded in 1923, to form the National Union. Oltramare spent four years as a member of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland representing the National Union. It became notorious for a demonstration in Geneva on November 9, 1932 when their march to the city's Salle Communale was counterdemonstrated by the Swiss Socialist Party.
