Under The Bushes, Under The Stars
''Under the Bushes Under the Stars'' is the ninth Guided by Voices album overall, and the last until 2012's Let's Go Eat the Factory to feature the "classic" lineup including Tobin Sprout, Mitch Mitchell, and Kevin Fennell in addition to leader Robert Pollard. The album is noted as Guided by Voices' first stab at professionalism, being recorded in 24 track studios rather than their customary 4 track. Sessions for the album were reportedly arduous, spread as they were across at least four studios and as many sets of producers, and many titles and configurations were vetted before a final sequence was reached. The final six tracks on the CD do not appear on the album's back cover. These tracks, which were included as a separate 12" EP in the vinyl edition, were not originally included in the completed album sequence, having been dropped from earlier proposed versions of the album, but were included at the request of Matador label executives who regretted their exclusion. An album is a collection of audio recordings issued on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape, or another medium such as digital distribution. Tobin Sprout
Tobin Sprout (born April 28, 1955) is an American visual artist, musician, songwriter, and children's author. He is best known as a former member of the indie rock band Guided by Voices. He served as a secondary major songwriter and guitarist of the group from 1987 to 1997 and again from 2010 to 2014. He was also a founding member of the band fig.4, who participated in the Dayton new wave scene in the mid 80s. Life and career Early life Sprout was born in Dayton, Ohio and graduated from Centerville High School in 1974. After graduating from high school, Sprout studied graphic design and illustration at Ohio University. Charles M. "Mitch" Mitchell III (born December 25, 1959) is an American guitarist, songwriter and producer, best known as the lead guitar in the early lineups of Dayton, Ohio, band Guided by Voices sporadically from 1983 to 1996. After leaving the band, Mitchell formed his own group, Mitch Mitchell's Terrifying Experience. James Greer is an American novelist, screenwriter, musician, and critic. As a screenwriter, he is known for writing the children's comedies '' Max Keeble's Big Move'', '' Just My Luck'' and '' The Spy Next Door'', as well as the 2018 thriller '' Unsane''. He lives in Los Angeles. Career Musician/critic Greer was senior editor and senior writer at ''Spin'' magazine in New York City in the early 1990s. He wrote and played on the song "Trendspotter Acrobat" on the album Sunfish Holy Breakfast by Guided By Voices. He was the bassist in the band from 1995 to 1996. Greer started a band in 2012 with French musician Lola G. called DTCV. Pronounced "detective", it was an indie rock duo from Joshua Tree, California. Multitrack recording (MTR), also known as multitracking or tracking, is a method of sound recording developed in 1955 that allows for the separate recording of multiple sound sources or of sound sources recorded at different times to create a cohesive whole. Multitracking became possible in the mid-1950s when the idea of simultaneously recording different audio channels to separate discrete "tracks" on the same reel-to-reel tape was developed. Robert Ellsworth Pollard Jr. (born October 31, 1957) is an American singer and songwriter who is the leader and creative force behind indie rock group Guided by Voices. In addition to his work with Guided by Voices, he continues to have a prolific solo career with 22 solo albums released so far. With nearly 3,000 songs registered to his name with BMI, Pollard is among the most prolific songwriters of his time. In 2006, '' Paste'' magazine listed him as the 78th-greatest living songwriter. Kevin Fennell
Kevin Fennell (born March 13, 1959) is an American musician from Dayton, Ohio best known as the original drummer for the indie rock band Guided by Voices. Career Fennell joined the original trio composition of the group, He performed with the band between 1983 and 1996, and since the reunion of the "Classic Lineup" in 2010. He appeared to perform at the band's "final" Dayton, OH performance in 2004. He did not, however, appear at their final concert overall in Chicago in December 2004. Fennell has also performed drums on Tobin Sprout's first two solo albums. Fennell rejoined the revived band in 2010 for a reunion tour and later album releases ''Let's Go Eat the Factory'' and '' Class Clown Spots a UFO''. ''Let's Go Eat the Factory'' is the 16th album by Dayton, Ohio rock group Guided by Voices. The album was first released on December 20, 2011 digitally through the iTunes Store, then by mail-order on January 1, 2012, and finally released retail on January 24, 2012. The album is the first since their 2004 dissolution, and the first to feature the band's classic lineup since 1996's '' Under the Bushes Under the Stars''. The album was produced by the band and recorded at the homes of members Tobin Sprout, Mitch Mitchell, and Greg Demos. As with previous albums, it features the band's famously lo-fi 4-track sound as well as more modern production. It is also the first Guided by Voices album to be released under the Guided by Voices, Inc. label.
