Under Suspicion (2000 Film)
''Under Suspicion'' is a 2000 American-French thriller film directed by Stephen Hopkins and starring Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, Monica Bellucci and Thomas Jane. The film is based on the 1981 French film ''Garde à vue'' and the 1970s British novel ''Brainwash'', written by John Wainwright. It was screened out of competition at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival. Plot Wealthy tax attorney Henry Hearst (Hackman) is about to give a speech at an exclusive fundraising party in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as the city celebrates the San Sebastián Festival. He is called to the police station to be questioned about the body he found the day before – that of a young girl who had been raped and murdered. Stephen Hopkins (director)
Stephen Hopkins is a Jamaican-born British-Australian director and producer of film and television. He directed ''Predator 2'', '' A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child'', '' Blown Away'', ''The Life and Death of Peter Sellers'', ''Lost in Space'' and '' Under Suspicion''. He also produced and directed several episodes of the first season of ''24''. Career Film In Australia Hopkins made '' Dangerous Game'' (1987). John Wainwright (author)
John William Wainwright (25 February 1921 – 19 September 1995) was an English crime novelist and author of 83 books, four of which have been published under the pen name Jack Ripley. He also wrote some short stories (mostly uncollected in book format), seven radio plays, and an indefinite amount of magazine articles and newspaper columns. Biography Wainwright was born in Hunslet, an area of inner-city south Leeds, in 1921. He left school at fifteen and served as a rear gunner in Lancaster bombers during the Second World War. Rotten Tomatoes is an American review-aggregation website for film and television. The company was launched in August 1998 by three undergraduate students at the University of California, Berkeley: Senh Duong, Patrick Y. Lee, and Stephen Wang. Marisol Calero (born 13 September 1963) is a Puerto Rican actress and singer. Early years Calero was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, on 13 September 1963.
