Nydia Caro
Nydia Caro (born June 7, 1948) is a Puerto Rican singer. Early years Caro was born in New York City to parents from Rincón, Puerto Rico, initiated her career in the arts at a very young age while living in New York. She attended James Monroe H.S. where she graduated in 1964. After completing high school she enrolled in the New York School of Performing Arts in singing, dancing, and acting classes. Music and Acting career Caro made her debut in show business acting at an NBC television show and in 1964 released a Christmas-themed single on the Roulette Records label, "Ask Me What I Want for Christmas" (Roulette R-4588). In 1967, shortly after her father died, she moved to Puerto Rico and released her first album titled ''Dimelo tu''. She has released 20 internationally acclaimed albums and CDs ever since. Puerto Rico and its OTI member station, Telemundo Puerto Rico (Now WKAQ-TV) was one of the founding countries of the OTI Festival and debuted in the show in 1972 in Madrid, competing uninterruptedly from the very first edition until the last show held in Acapulco in 2000. History Puerto Rico, whose broadcaster selected its performers internally, had a promising start in the OTI Song Contest. In fact, the broadcaster always selected big names in order to compete in the event. OTI Festival ( es, Festival OTI de la Canción, pt, Festival OTI da Canção), often known simply as La OTI, was an international song competition, organised annually between 1972 and 2000 by the Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana (OTI) (English: Iberoamerican Television Organisation), featuring participants representing primarily Ibero-American countries. Each participating OTI member broadcaster submitted an original song in Spanish or Portuguese to be performed on live television and transmitted to all OTI broadcasters via satellite. OTI Festival 1974 was the third edition of the annual OTI Festival. It was held in Acapulco, Mexico, following the country's victory at the OTI Festival 1973, 1973 contest with the song "Que alegre va María" by Imelda Miller. Organised by the Organización de Telecomunicaciones de Iberoamérica, Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana (OTI) and host broadcaster Televisa, the contest was held at the Ruiz de Alarcón Theatre on Saturday 26 October 1974 and was hosted by Raúl Velasco, Raul Velasco and Lolita Ayala.
