Uncanny X-Men (band)
Uncanny X-Men were an Australian pop rock band which formed in late 1980. Their founding mainstay was lead singer Brian Mannix. Originally with Nick Matandos on drums and Ron Thiessen on guitar, they were soon joined by Chuck Hargreaves on guitar and Steve Harrison on bass guitar. John Kirk replaced Harrison and Craig Waugh replaced Matandos by 1984. The band's debut album, '''Cos Life Hurts'' (June 1985), peaked at No. 3 on the Australian Kent Music Report, and provided their highest-charting single " 50 Years" which reached No. 4 on the related singles chart. Thiessen left to be eventually replaced by Brett Kingman. Their second album, '' What You Give is What You Get'' (October 1986), reached No. 19, and included a top 20 single, "I Am" (April). Frankston, Victoria
Frankston is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Frankston local government area. Oz For Africa
Oz for Africa was an Australian concert held on 13 July 1985 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. It was organised by Bill Gordon who also organised the EAT Concert held at the Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne at the end of January 1985. That event was televised nationally on Channel Nine. Over $1million was raised in the accompanying telethon. Gordon organised for all proceeds to go to the Red Cross. During the 10 hour event live satellite hook ups between Melbourne London and Los Angeles included interviews with Geldof and many of the stars of the hit songs "We Are the World" & "Feed the World". The Oz for Africa concert was broadcast locally and internationally as part of the worldwide Live Aid performances to raise money for famine relief in Africa. David Briggs (Australian Musician)
David John Briggs (born 26 January 1951, Melbourne, Australia) is an Australian musician, songwriter and record producer, best known as lead guitarist in the rock band Little River Band between 1976 and 1981, having joined the band when original lead guitarist Ric Formosa left. Professional career In 1976 he joined Little River Band. He wrote their hit single "Lonesome Loser" and co-wrote "Happy Anniversary". Briggs also produced the rock band, Australian Crawl, and co-wrote their single "Hoochie Gucci Fiorucci Mama" with vocalist James Reyne. He produced Russell Morris' ''Almost Frantic'' album and started Rough Diamond Records with Ross Gardiner, a Melbourne-based music writer, which was distributed through Astor Records and then PolyGram. He signed the band No Fixed Address which was one of the first contemporary Aboriginal bands to record in Australia. Greg Macainsh
Gregory John Macainsh (born 30 December 1950) is an Australian former musician and songwriter. He provided bass guitar and backing vocals for pop rockers, Skyhooks from 1973 to 1980 and subsequently for various reformations. According to Australian musicologist, Ian McFarlane, "Macainsh's biting, provocative songs were the perfect expression of adolescent obsessions and frustrations. With those songs, the band made an enormous impact on Australian social life." Macainsh became an intellectual property lawyer. Armstrong Studios, also known as Bill Armstrong's Studio and later renamed AAV (Armstrong Audio Video), is an Australian commercial recording studio located in Melbourne, Victoria. During the decade from 1965 to 1975, Armstrong Studios in South Melbourne was arguably the top independent recording studio in Australasia.
