The Uluwatu CT 2018 was an event of the 2018 World Surf League. Uluwatu, Bali
Uluwatu is a region on the south-western tip of the Bukit Peninsula of Bali, Indonesia. It is home to the Pura Luhur Uluwatu Temple. The name Uluwatu comes from ''ulu'', meaning 'lands end', and ''watu'', meaning 'rock'. Geography Visible in the Bukit Peninsula are layers of tertiary limestone resulting from the tectonic subduction of the Indo-Australian Plate under the Eurasian Plate, bringing it above sea level. Uluwatu borders the Indian Ocean to the south. Surfing Uluwatu was "discovered" as a surfing destination in 1972, due to the making of ''Morning of the Earth'', a 1971 classic surf film by Alby Falzon and David Elfick. The original goal of the film was to show waves around Kuta. After a few days of shooting around Kuta beach, they found Uluwatu. Griffin Colapinto (born July 29, 1998, in Mission Viejo, California) is an American professional surfer. In 2017, Colapinto won the prestigious Vans Triple Crown of Surfing event. Kanoa Igarashi (born October 1, 1997) is a Japanese American surfer who has competed professionally worldwide since 2012. In 2016, he was the youngest rookie on the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT), and had collected more Round One wins than any other surfer, finished 2nd place at the Pipeline event, and 20th place overall that year. His greatest career performance was in the 2022 WSL CT where he finished top 5 and got to compete on the final event of the year held in Trestles California. Childhood Igarashi's father Tsutomu was a surfer in Japan and an avid fan of the sport himself. Filipe Toledo
Filipe Toledo (born April 16, 1995) is a Brazilian professional surfer who has competed on the World Surf League Men's World Tour since 2013. He’s a second-generation pro who grew up outside of Ubatuba, Brasil on the northeastern coast of the state of São Paulo. His father, and long-time coach, Ricardo, was a two-time national champion. In 2014, as his career took flight, Filipe convinced his entire family to move to San Clemente, California. In 2014, after also competing in some events on the Qualifying Series (WQS), Toledo became the WQS champion.
