Ultra Vortek
''Ultra Vortek'' (also released as ''Ultra Vortex'') is a fighting game developed by Beyond Games and published by Atari Corporation for the Atari Jaguar in North America and Europe on September 5, 1995. It was the second fighting game released for the Jaguar after ''Kasumi Ninja'' and unsuccessfully sought to capitalize on the trend of violent fighting games started by Midway Games's ''Mortal Kombat (1992 video game), Mortal Kombat'' in 1992. It was the only officially released game that supports the unreleased Atari Jaguar#Peripherals, Jaguar Voice Modem Video game accessory#Add-ons/Peripherals, peripheral for online play. Set in a dystopian future where civilization, ''Ultra Vortek'' follows seven fighters from three groups as they enter a tournament held by a demonic being known as the Guardian. Beyond Games
Beyond Games was an American video game developer. It was founded in 1992 by Kris Johnson. The first release from the company was BattleWheels for the Atari Lynx, winner of the 1993 Consumer Electronics Show Innovations Award. Their follow-up, ''CyberVirus'' was planned for release the following year, but abandoned due to sagging sales of the platform. Assets and code were sold to Songbird Productions, who completed and published the game in 2002. Before they went under, they were working on a game titled Doomsday Rescue. In 2003, many of their employees, including Kris Johnson, would go on to form WildWorks, Smart Bomb Interactive (now known as WildWorks), where they continue to make games. A D-pad (short for directional pad or digital pad; officially referred to by Nintendo as a +Control Pad) is a flat, usually thumb-operated, often digital, four-way directional control with one button on each point, found on nearly all modern video game console gamepads, game controllers, on the remote control units of some television and DVD players, and smart phones.
