Ultra Games
Ultra Software Corporation was a shell corporation and publishing label created in 1988 as a subsidiary of Konami of America, in an effort to get around Nintendo of America's strict licensing rules in place at the time for the North American market. One of these rules was that a third-party company could only publish up to five games per year for the Nintendo Entertainment System in the US. This was hardly convenient for Konami, which had begun releasing more than ten games a year for both the Famicom and its Disk System add-on in Japan. With a greater library than it was allowed to localize, Konami formed the Ultra Games brand to extend its annual library to ten games a year. Ultra's first game was the NES version of ''Metal Gear''. At first, Ultra was dedicated to localizing Konami's pre-existing software from Japan, but later it began publishing works from other companies as well. Metal Gear (video Game)
is an action-adventure stealth video game developed and published by Konami for the MSX2. It was released for the system in Japan and parts of Europe in 1987. Considered the game to popularize the stealth game genre, it was the first video game to be fully developed by Hideo Kojima, who would go on to direct most of the games in the ''Metal Gear'' series. A reworked port of the game was released for the Famicom a few months later, which later saw release in international markets for the NES over the following two years; this version was developed without Kojima's involvement and features drastically altered level designs, among other changes. From Myth to Laughter'', released in Japan as and outside Japan as ''Parodius'' (from "Parody Gradius"), is a shoot 'em up arcade video game and the second title in the ''Parodius'' series produced by Konami. The European SNES version is also known as ''Parodius: Non-Sense Fantasy''. The gameplay is stylistically very similar to the ''Gradius'' series, but the graphics and music are intentionally absurd. As a result of its localised title, ''From Myth to Laughter'' is often mistaken as the original game of the series. The lesser known original game, '' Parodius: The Octopus Saves the Earth'', was released for the MSX computer in Japan. Road Fighter
is a racing arcade video game developed by Konami and released in 1984. It was the first racing game from Konami. The goal is to reach the finish line within the stages without running out of time, hitting other cars or running out of fuel (which is refilled by hitting a special type of car). The game spawned a spiritual successor, ''Konami GT'' (1986), and two sequels, ''Midnight Run: Road Fighter 2'' (1995) and ''Winding Heat'' (1996). A Japan-only sequel was also released 14 years later, ''Road Fighters'' (2010). is a series of Formula One-based racing video games developed and published by Konami starting on the MSX in 1987. F-1 Spirit: The Way to Formula-1 ''F-1 Spirit: The Way to Formula-1'' is a top down Formula One Racing game, developed and published by Konami, which was released for the MSX in Japan and Europe in 1987. The game engine is very similar to Konami's ''Road Fighter''. It also features Konami's custom sound chip called Konami SCC (a five-channel chip that complements the three-channel PSG chip of the MSX computer system, or in other words, a sound custom chip that brings five voices more to the three voices of the PSG sound chip on the system), and great MSX1 graphics to go with it. ''Ultra Golf'', known in Europe as ''Konami Golf'' and in Japan as , is a golf video game developed by Konami for the Game Boy system.
